I am 57 and I did testosterone therapy for 2 years about 5 years ago. It definitely made a difference for me. I stopped when my count got up to 700. I would like to do it again.

There is a lot of difference of opinion on what is a "normal" testosterone level is. Some doctors don't think it means much since they have seen patients with normal libido and a low count and low libido with a normal count. Mine was around 300. After testosterone therapy, it was around 700 and I felt great. I went with the shots (in the butt) twice a month because I couldn't be bothered with the patch or the gel. One risk is that they think it may increase your chances of getting prostate cancer, but if we all live long enough we'll all get it anyway !

Anthony this is an useful question. It would be one to dicuss with your neuro. Jazzfan commented about the risk for prostate cancer. I personally met a 50 yr old man with advanced prostate cancer and the rapid advance of his condition was believed to be due to over the counter testosterone supplements. An update on what you find out would be interesting.

My husband uses 5% androgel daily. They are ordered by his urologist who monitors him, his levels and his PSA as well as a digital exam each time he goes in.We had to fight the insurance to cover it since his levels were within the Medicare considered "normal" range. Without it he sleeps 18-20 hours a day. His neuro wrote a supporting letter to help the appeal. I would NEVER use an herbal or OTC hormone supplement since you are never sure of its potency.
