I thought it was just a general term when you dont fulfill all their symptom criteria..as in my reflexes all work well but i have stiffness of ankle and wrist on one side , slight tremor sometimes in right hand fingers...etc

As hilarypeta said and it describes all PD like conditions from Essential Tremor to Huntington's Disease. Also includes MSA, PSP, CBD and PD and probably some I've never heard of.

I have read the definition of Parkinsonism which it seems covers a multitude of sins. I also think the doctors use it when they are not sure.

I did read if doctors believe you are suffering a form of Parkinsonism and they treat you for PD itself, and if that treatment responds then they know you definately have PD and not Parkinsonism

How true that is I am not sure.

that is very true - as my french neuro explained - you can pretty much call it ;parkinsonism if your syptoms dont respond to the usual levadopa drugs

That's what my neuro says. If the meds relieve the symptoms, it's PD. Doesn't matter what the symptoms are. In my case, I couldn't move my left ankle and inner thigh became so rigid I got tendonitis. Took a while to diagnose.

Certainly a poor response to levodopa tends to indicate a case of not PD.

I read from your question that you may be asking if any doctors even know about Parkinsons. I have found very few do. Maybe it is because there are so few of us that it isn't worth their time . I have met a few that have never even seen a Parkinson patient. I was on a cruise once, and went to see the ships doctor.HE was so excited to meet a Parkinsonian that he called in his nurse and others to take a look at me. You might want to get the book, "WHat Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Parkinson's DIsease"by Jill Marjama-Lyons MD

Thank you for all your answers. His Dr. was treating him for Parkinsons, but now says it may be Parkinsonism. And what I have read, you have symptoms of Parkinsons, but the meds don't work for you. Thank you Koko, I will for sure buy that book.
