Has anyone read the medical information released recently about Azilect? Because of the cost, I have decided to discontinue taking it.

It has been recently published that after extensive research, there is not a big difference (enough to claim it as an advertised medication) in how Azilect truly slows down the effects and symptoms of Parkinson's. Very expensive medicine to take and I have made the decision to no longer take it.

Hi Joyceann, Not sure if you are retired or working still, doctor put me on Azilect 4 months ago.. not having insurance, I threw myself on Teva's mercy and now get the medicine free.. you might want to try it.. if you want the address or phone number let me know.. and yes this stuff is expensive, but I have found it helps me during the day with break thru tremors..

Thanks for the info., Maggie. I am still working (a Kindergarten teacher). I DO have insurance and the co-pay is still $90 per month. It was suggested by my physician to contact the makers of Azilect, but when I went on the website, I found out that because I have insurance, I am not eligible for any help. I sure would love to be able to get it for free!!

It just slays me how much medicine is, especially when it is something you need to function in the everyday world. It's almost like they WANT you to become dependent on the health care system for your medicines. I understand the costs of making and testing the product, but they could make it a reasonable price, instead of a house note (pre 2000's..lol.)

I stopped taking Azilect almost two years ago because i didn't feel very good when taking it and the warnings from the FDA made me very concerned about taking it. For me, the cost- benefit just wasn't there in more ways than cost alone

I haven't read anything new regarding side effects or interactions only the same that has been written for a couple of years. I may go on Azilect next if symptoms increase. Any info would be appreciated.

If I didn't have insurance I probably could get it for free. But an article on the Michael J Fox Parkinson's Foundation website written by researchers said it has not been proven to be an effective means of keeping Parkinsons from slowing down like prevIously advertised. And they are recommending the FDA not advertise that it. Does anymore.
