"put your own mask on first......'

I have heard that so many times, as part of a safety demonstration on an airplane as I spend many hours (or have) in the sky. Thankfully I never had the occasion too in that context, but here, in Scotland, safe, feet firmly on the ground, I put my mask on everyday...... and I mean just like the guidance, to ensure I am fit to help the person next to me.

We spend, most of us, our lives unselfishly, wanting to support and help others, look after family and friends and be the best we can be. It is not in my nature nor yours to think me, me, me. However this has now changed, well for me it has. I have made a discovery, I actually need to invest in myself now, in order to be my best for other people. It was not an easy thing to understand and went against all my normal behavior but it is so so true.

If I am not happy, fulfilled, balanced I am not in the best place to help someone else.

This is an amazing community full of kind generous people, who rally round as soon as one of us is in need. Its unconditional and its another way we are bound together. I need that and I need you. The best support I can have is from those who look after themselves first,

So perhaps we ought to try to remember to take a little you time, bake a cake, make some art, bang some drums, whatever gives you quality, joy and fun.

Kindest C

It's a lesson that feels more like "work" sometimes.....only because it does not come natural.

We are so used to putting others "first"...to take care of ourselves before we start "sharing ourselves", to me, seems like another "necessary chore".....You are right, of coarse....We must help ourselves before we are able to help others.

i know all too well. Had to cancel a weekend visit to my son, he actually sounded disappointed, but I'm too tired to pack a bag and get to the bus. I'd cry tears if I could but have to take care of me!

Try not to let the weekend slip away from you, two disappointments would be so rubbish. I have a quiet weekend ahead too so I am going indulge with extra art time, loud music and of course drumming... but a new project too not sure what yet, and oh have my keyboard! Have a great weekend x
