Anyone have irregular blood pressure readings, some quite low? Hubby has PD for 8 yrs+ and is over 75.
Mine were all over the chart until we found the correct meds for me.
Most PD meds can create low blood pressure. It depends on your metabolism. I take sinemet, mirapexin and azelect all of which can cause LBP. My BP is approx. 98/60 most of the time. If I try and stand up too quickly it can cause me to become dizzy. Age and length of PWP is not usually significant.
In my case,Parkinson's itself brought about low blood pressure. I have a chronic heart condition and was taking both Lisinopril and Zetia in an attempt to lower my blood pressure. When Parkie came along, it brought weakness and dizziness which was traced to very low blood pressure, (sub 100 systolic). Scratch the Lisinopril and Zetia and BP stabilised as did the heart condition. At the time I was not yet taking any meds for PD.
Recent trips to the doctor there were two concerns. Blood pressure was usually 117/73 and now it is all over the place but lower. From what I
understand here this problem is due to parkinson's medications. Right?

I have had unusually low blood pressure readings recently. The lowest having been 88/50. I've found that this usually happens after exercise; but will sometimes happen out of the blue. My cardiologist recommends a lower dosage of my PD meds; but my neurologist is highly against it. I know I can't lower my PD meds. What is a person to do? I take Sinemet, Stavelo and Requip XL.

I had the same problem with my blood pressure and exercise. My PT sent me directly to my doctor.
I went to my cardiologist and he took me off ALL meds (not fun), I had a good week or two, then I could not move.
Went back on meds slowly and am doing much, much better!
My husband has orthostatic hypotension. As he moves around, his blood pressure can drop to under 80/50 and he goes down. He also has atrial fib. Since he is 6'3" and I am 5'4", there is not much I can do when he goes down other than to guide him gently down. He then recovers and is able to get up himself. I fear the day when he cannot help himself get up. He takes fludrocortisone to keep his b/p up and digoxin to keep his heart rate steady. They tried him on cardizem for the atrial fib but his pressure went so low, he couldn't walk without getting dizzy and lightheaded. His pressure still fluctuates a lot but at least the systolic stays over 100 so he can function better.
Yes, my blood pressure drops30 to 40 points if I go from lying down to sitting up, or from sitting up to standing. I believe it's called orthstatic hypotension. I don't think it's necessarily linked to my P.D., because my internst has it and definately doesn't have Parkinsons.
I forgot to mention that I take amatodine 3xs a day for this.
Thanks for all your info, we go see the PD doctor this week, cardo end of month, hubby has a pacemaker, diabetes and the mulitude of other things associated with these illnesses.
