Parking our car

MellowYellowcup profile image

now into yr 2 with R hand + L foot tremors plus all the other symptoms . What seems to be small issue but blows up every time I park our car.

“ to short too long too left too right….always wrong” my partner rarely compliments my parking!

I’ve lost my confidence

so is this a PD Spatial issue or me getting old?

The progression of PD symptoms is a fairly logical consequence of our condition. However, I’ve noticed that there is rarely any discussion about the 'normal' decline that comes with aging. While things may not be what they once were, it’s important to recognize that not everything can be entirely attributed to PD. Additionally, the increasing complaints from a partner seem to be a common aspect of long-term relationships….

I totally agree.

That's what your partner says. What do you say about your parking?

ask your partner to park the car for you when you are together, I get nervous when other people watch me do things that are difficult because of PD and so I do these things even worse.

Ditto for me! I despise when someone is watching me do something that I find particularly tedious., especially parking the car. My dear mother, gotta love her, is standing behind my car. I’m like mom really. 😂 She didn’t realize what she was doing but I had to tell her to move away while I parked. And I use to be the best at parallel parking. 😂Not anymore. Anyway, I specifically ask the people that know me to give me some time and not hang over me or just come out and ask them to do it for me. I try to ignore the others .

I'm really sorry to hear about that. Part of having PD is not knowing what is caused by the illness versus the changes that come with age. That said, I recommend getting a Tesla. I got one last month, and the auto-park feature is beautifully efficient and accurate. I know not everyone can afford one, but I do think it's worth it if you can!

I rented one a couple of weekends in a row this month. It was a little creepy at first but it gave me hope that I could still drive if my condition worsened. They are becoming more reasonably priced now.

Many of the manufacturers have automatic parking options. Our last three Fords had that option and they work very well. You do have to remember to put your foot on the brake, though, at the end, something my HWP forgot and backed into a barrier, lol.

Loss of proprioception - it's part of the illness. Be careful out there.

I find reverse parking difficult these days. I really have to concentrate and take it slowly. My feeling is that it's a problem with spatial awareness due to PD.

Pwp's develop a need for accuracy, like your partner does.

Between you both, who did you say has PD?

Me/him/.

My wife, who does not have PD, is increasingly struggling to park. Moreover, I wouldn't dare to say anything about it… 😅

Somewhere I read that inability to park well is an early sign of dementia. Has anyone else heard or read this?

I can no longer twist my body around to see rearward. So I cant park without a screen on the dashboard, in front of me
