Sorry I've not really had a view on keto either way but couldn't get past the irritating sarcastic presenter to watch much. He then seemed to speed up mercolas voice from a poor quality recording. I have heard from medic friends though that keto can be dangerous long term.

It's like all dietary advice. What's the presenters motivation? If it's financial gain then be wary.

He did not intentionally speed up the video. The original video he was going to use got taken down while he was working on his video and all he could find was a short sped up version of Dr. Mercola. I agree with you on his attitude.

I've known or at least been aware of Dr M for 20 years. I saw him speak at a medical conference in Colorado Springs. His topic was how cell phones can lead to brain cancer and how to prevent it. His solution was to use a stick to keep the phone at least 2 ft away from your ear. But I also read his approach to HIIT: Hyper Intense Interval Exercise. I've used that for 20 years, So he's a multi-millionaire, doesn't mean he's not right. Also doesn't mean he's all wrong. My interest in keto diets goes back to Dr Atkins who preceded Dr M by 30 years, He is a Huckster. Actually they both are.

If you want to know what I think is really helpful and legitimate information controlling weight and controlling sugars and even reducing inflammation along your arteries that is not touched by medications for cholesterol (because they are limited to serum cholesterol), which are the ones that often cause a great deal of inflammation because there are oxidized and packed in around the arteries, causing scar tissue, and attracting oxidizing immune system agents which you don't want because they oxidize...then go to YouTube and listen to "Dr. Boz" her name is Bosworth, MD and she seems very much more than credible.

The mechanisms she discusses are all tied up with blood sugar, bad cholesterol, and inflammation around the arteries that cannot be just launched with medication because they have now been packed around the outside tissues and environs around arteries, which occur with chronic problem bad cholesterol and triglycerides and sugars that are within the blood (within-blood is referred to as "serum" cholesterol) attract damage-causing antibodies... which are attracted to damaged tissues that have been oxidized...globbed up, oxidized cholesterol that has been pushed through the artery walls and into the surrounding tissues where they just simply clog and clog and clog, do damage, and signal the immune system to come and rip it out, which damages arteries and blood flow even further, and which medications can't help.

All this, she says, promotes atherosclerosis and arteriosclerosis... It is her version of the keto diet but with timed meals and fasting that she says much better addresses swings and blood sugar that cause a lot of stress on our system and results in diabetes, and these heart ailments and vascular ailments are ken to the exact same process, but occurs in the heart and arteries to cause vascular damage, hardening, reduced blood flow, and significantly increased depositions, occlusions, clots and strokes.

She makes for quite a credible and convincing sounding case, although I have not attempted to review any science about it. Nevertheless, she is definitely worth a close look and she does not take long to make her presentations, and her things to do are also easy and short and sweet to implement. Very easy to understand.

Wouldn't mind at all people checking this her out for all the reasons we might have and reporting back what they think and what they find.

For that matter later this summer I'm due for my annual visit with our cardiologists and I plan to mention this gal to my cardiologist, my wife's cardiologist, and my internist since we'll be seeing all three sometime in August.

Great video Marc. I agree with some parts of it, not so much with other parts.

Disclaimer: I have a High School Degree and poor impulse control.

Where I agree: I think the brain needs glucose. Maybe the rest of the body can get by on ketones, but not the brain (IMHO). It has occurred to me that the mental feeling I get when I go keto or fast is very similar to how I used to feel when I would go a day or two without sleep. I could be wrong, but for me, my brain gets glucose (in the form of real sugar or honey).

Where I quibble with this doctor: I don't like how he keeps referring to studies showing "All Cause Mortality" rates to make his case. We are people that have something wrong with us and we are trying to address it. It is likely that some of the things we try will contribute to an increased "All Cause Mortality". It's like pointing out to a cancer patient that people that take chemotherapy have a greater "All Cause Mortality". It just seems irrelevant.

The diet I believe in: I believe in the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (which is gluten free) combined with Lectin Free.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD): This diet was designed to fix IBS by lowering inflammation. You can read all about it here: pecanbread.com/p/index.html

I've been following the SCD (Gluten Free) for about 2 years. There is some evidence that the SCD can normalize your microbiome if you still have all the needed bacteria: The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD): The SCD has been shown to normalize the microbiome in people with Crohn's ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a... and UC. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a...

I do have one cheat. I drink Pepsi, but only with real sugar. I am addicted. I believe corn syrup has lectins, so if they stop making Pepsi with real sugar I will be off Pepsi.

Marc,

I'm not a fan of Dr. Mercola, but the presenter of the video put me to sleep with his very poor attempt at sarcastic humor. That was 18 minutes of my life that I can't get back!
