Remission

My husband has been off all PD meds due to hospitalization for a week and has had no PD symptoms. It’s as though he doesn’t have PD. He was diagnosed 10 years ago. Is this possible?

What is he in the hospital for?

Also, are you sure the hospital is not giving him the meds? They normally give patients their regularly prescribed meds when theyre in the hospital. They should, at least.

It would be dangerous to stop PD meds cold turkey like that. For example, stopping Sinemet suddenly or reducing your dosage can cause a life threatening condition similar to neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). Stopping Sinemet “cold turkey” can cause life threatening symptoms, such as: dangerously high fever or hyperpyrexia. confusion.

Double check, please, and notify the physician about this.

Speedy recovery!

He had a tear in esophagus after dilation and had to have clips put in to repair. Nothing orally as his PD meds could not go into IV as they were not liquid. Neourologist is aware. Wondering if he could be in remission since he has no symptoms. Hopefully he will be coming home in a day or two. He was started on thickened clear liquids last night.

I dont know what your neurologist's opinion might be on this, but, the reason I know about the effects of stopping PD meds is because I tried it. At first, I had no increase in PD symptoms. I thought I was in remission as well. It took almost a week for my tremors to reappear. In the meantime, I experienced weird body temperature fluctuations. By the fifth day or so, my symptoms came roaring back worse than I ever had in my recollection. But the good news is, one pill and the symptoms were at bay and all was resolved. Good luck! Hope the hubster feels better!

I speak from total ignorance, but... could it be he was miss-diagnosed? Probably way too much to even think about. Maybe, working with the neurologist, he could hold off restarting medications until symptoms started appearing? Again, I have a high school degree.

Others have remarked that anesthesia temporarily relieves symptoms.

Thanks. Think that pain meds and antibiotics may have been why. He’s back on meds.

I think because your husband’s Vagus nerve in the GI area been stimulated during operation then his symptoms disappeared temporarily or even he was given vagtomy in which some branches of vagus nerve are cut. You can ask his surgeon if he had any kinds of vagotomy or over-stimulation of vagus nerve during the surgey.
