Has anyone else had stiffness, shakiness when really nervous, bad handwriting etc all their life? Were we born with pd?

I always felt i had a slight shake, poor hand writing & rubbish at art, I think it is genetic, we could be born with it, but we can be stronger for it : )

I was always very left handed -now very left parkied! stronger in some ways due to life experience..;Just interested as someone else told me they had been stiff like me..Ive never been able to sit cross legged like a fat buddha for example!!

Hilary, I don't have diagnose of PD, I am going to visit Movement Disorder Specialist tomorrow, but lately I am thinking about things you've mentioned. I've always been stiffer then the others, never been able to do things that other kids could (rope, bridge - in gymnastics, I don't how you say that). So maybe it's connected somehow...

I think so- its this parkinson label that is wrong in a way as we are all so different..if they find that 30 per cent of those diagnosed with parkinson never were when they examined them after they died- do we all have the same thing? Some are born more flexible than others..

Yes my husband . It's only my opinion but we have been married for 54 years and I use to always tell him he was mechanically dyslexic lol..

Not with the written word that was excellent , it was what he did for a living .

But his handwriting was always so tiny . Always fiddling with his fingers , eventually they would cramp .

He had nightmares , jumpting out of bed , falling downstairs and crying out . even when young his father took him to the GP but they just said his mind never went to sleep lol ! !

His dexterity was poor , extremely painful right shoulder/neck had all sorts of treatment for that , none of it worked . When sitting next to him he would lean on me , I would have to push him away , or eventually move away Apart from that his health was very good never needed to go to the doctor.

Couldn;t stand to talk to anyone for long , didn't holld his gaze , would suddenly change the subject or walk away , I use to tell him he was rude . (NOW I REALISE HE WASN'T )

Kicked his right leg out ,When walking I would struggle to keep up with him he always seemed to be pushing himself , told me he could only walk up a hill quickly .

Eventually I thought he was deaf or ignorant . If I spoke to him he wouldn't answer

Of course this is all in hindsight and things worsened gradually when I think back he has struggled all his life and didn't know it .

I did wonder how many Parkinsonians were born Breached birth . HE was ..

Sorry to have rambled on ..

that sounds very hard;;only thing i share with him is small illegible hand writing unles printing large like a childs!

I have PD on my left side. Before I was diagnosed, I had to make a conscience effort to swing my arm when I walked. It was thought that I had a pinched nerve in my neck. My left arm would feel so heavy and non functoning at times. My shoulder would get so tight that my shoulder would elevate. My husband was forever telling me to switch my purse to the other shoulder. I'm was ambidextrious, something I learned as a kid. I used to have beautiful handwriting, now, maybe because of computers and not really havinging a need to write, it is very small and scrawlly. Even I have a hard time readin it. I do know that if you get nervous or anxious or any time you have adrinolin rush of any kind will make your symptoms more noticable. It affects the same part of the brain that PD is in. Lots of stretching, a massage once in a while, a heating pad a must a night. Then all is good for a while.:>

I've had symptoms, I now realize, since my 30's. My husband used to comment that I did not swing my left arm when walking. And I have photos of me with an attractive (not) left hand clutching like a claw! And constipation. My neuro says an early symptom. :)

I ve had a ttremour all my life and bouts of depression since my early teens, My mother had textbook Parkinsons syymptoms for as long back aas I could remember, I believe Ive had iit lingering and the symptoms have now blossom since the loss of my family, Ohe yeas and as mention above constipation was one mof my eralier issues.

My handwriting was very good (maybe being a teacher had something to do with that.)

I have also wondered about never having any coordination...but think of athletes who have PD.

!st time I've responded!! But, I've been a singer and speaker since childhood (singing anyway.) But, I've always hve been shaky while singing and giving a speech. To the point of never holding anything in my hands. On rare times while singing I will be very calm and that happens only when the song really means something to me. I can't hold a mic in either hand now - even though Parkie is only on my left side.
