I've read of loss of smell and Parkinson's. But I've developed an intense sense of smell. Annoying to the point of affecting my sleep, and breathing. I'm not even sure if the smell is coming from me, or the environment. Difficult to describe.

I have no sense of smell and sense of taste is poor.

Same here. If my husband burns his toast in the morning I have to put Vick on my nostrils to stop vomiting!
My hubby is the Parky, not me, but I found that steroid nasal spray for hayfever did that to me! When I stopped using it the terrible smell went away!
Do you smell the correct smell for what you are smelling or is it altered? Just curious.
The correct smell for what I'm smelling does seem to be altered. A chemical , pesticide, kind of smell overwhelms what I should be smelling. Hard to describe.
I also have a heightened sense of smell but it is of a strong chemical smell which non-pwp can’t detect.

Me too.... It has a caustic quality-- like a fire burning. I would be curious to find out what glyphosate odor smells like. Odor has the ability to register memory which confuses things for me -not knowing if what I'm experiencing is a kind of 4th dimensional bleed ...
Interesting. Odor having ability to register memory. I feel like I am constantly smelling Round Up, or some insecticide. I had used the product over a month ago The issue showed up last week. Getting sick just thinking of it.
I also have a similar sensation with dry mouth which has been occurring for many months now.
I am reminded of what a friend of mine said...."thing 'bout smell is ..it can completely hijack the brain".
My sense of smell has been intact up until now, except for one experience ln June this year. I pulled down a lilac branch to have my first smell of this wonderful flower this year and what I got was a chemical sort of smell, almost like a pesticide smell... this was the only instance of smell issue I ever got. Lilac smelled like usual the next day. Quite weird.

My sense of smell has somehow gone awaL in that if I smell a strong odour in the air it will stay in my nose for a while then go but then can come back at any time . It’s as if my brain records it and Puts it In my nose whenever. Odd very odd
Odd is right. The brain having ability to record odors. As I mentioned earlier to moondaughter, I am wondering if Roundup I had used month or so may be the smell.
After my grandfather passed I could smell his cigarette smoke days afterward. . I read once that rose s that have the highest medicinal qualities are th ose with a scent. Memory can register in a lot of ways and mediums.
I had the opposite, I constantly smelled things that weren't real. A doctor called it olfactory hallucinations. An MRI suggested MS. I was on Tysabri weekly infusions for two years. This stopped the odors. Shortly later I was diagnosed with PD and started Sinemet. I stopped the Tysabri and Sinemet and so far no recurrences of the signs.
I wonder if it can be a bacterial infection in your sinuses or glymphatic fluid that is cleaning out your brain that you can smell. If there are residues of toxins in your cells that are washed out by fluids in your body they may appear like smells in your sinuses? Strictly a guess with no scientific basis😊
I can't make sense of it - can't smell coffee brewing next to me but passed someone on the street who had a take-out coffee that I could smell.
Also sometimes I notice a mild body odour, unrelated to bathing, like Parmesan cheese. No one else notices it on me. I think this is the Parkinson's odour that has been studied.
