Hi. Just joined. Like to share effects Parkinson's disease. Is it normal to have bad dreams atleast twice a week. Could anyone recommend something to take, so I don't dream and sleep more restful?

That describes my nights, my wife's nights and my cats night. I think if you found something to make your sleep deeper, may be more violent dreams.

No not normal, but what is normal, it will change, maybe better maybe worse. The worse mornings are after I have laid there for 8 hours without moving, no dreams no wake up solid sleep.

No blood circulation, voiding of waters, everything hurts and I am tired. If you are afraid of a dream , try discussing with some one close because the real problem is not in dreamland.

Hi there. As you can see many fellow PWPs don't sleep. Some meds may help your PD symptoms others cause dreams ( or accentuate them,).

Melatonin is touted as a go-to supplement— take an hour before sleep for a few weeks to determine if it’s effective. Seems Harmless enough & not expensive. CBD oil helps many as well, so maybe research both?

I do both! I take 10mg of melatonin at bedtime and a few puffs of cannabis. My neurologist's nurse told me that Klonopin is "the gold standard" among meds that ease dreamtime and mitigate sleep disturbances. I've heard that it's terribly addictive. Also, the one time I took it I had some hallucinations. That tore it! I'll stick with melatonin!

Just twice a week . You lucky beggar, I dream and have nightmares most nights and a matinee if I fall asleep in the afternoon.

It's about anything and e erything .

Last night I dreamt I was in a drinking game .

Seeing how much Gin and tonic I could down with some very strange people.

Incidentally, I won. My bottle had been filled with clear water.

I shared my winnings with the bar man

You could t write it.

Seriously though sometimes very frightening.

Up side I'm thinking of cancelling my sat TV subscription.

Welcome to the weird and wonderfully world of Mr Parkinsons.

Yes, i’ve had that, along with bad headaches, and my brain just seemingly in a state of agitation. My neurologist gave me medicine that works for bad headaches and as an anti-epileptic, along with the Sinemet for my PD, and everything is fine now. No more bad dreams and nightmares!

Vivid intense dreams and sometimes nightmares are one of the identifying symptoms of PD. Try melatonin first which is non-prescription. This may help you sleep deeper. My understanding is dreams happen during shallow sleep periods.

I take Carbidopa/Levodopa three times a day with one before bed which helps me.

Staying active during the day (exercising) helps at night too. Again you sleep deeper.

While Melatonin does help me sleep, I notice my dreams are bizarre and horrible after I take it.

Yes I get this too. I think the issue is that you wake up in the middle of these dreams and so are more likely to remember them, though it also seems to be they go on a lot longer and more vivid than if you were awaken (normally by someone else before you had it).

The only way to lessen these would be reduce your parkinson's symptoms. Look at best practice. Try low carb, mannitol, coconut oil and plenty of exercise.

You are describing REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, in which the PD patient acts out violent dreams. I've been on Clonazapam for years and now have few violent dreams. I've also found that taking an extra Sinemet at bedtime helps me get 7-8. hours of sleep. That brings my total Sinemet to 5/day.

Agree with this . . . I have had several vivid dreams. and actually walked in my sleep once. I agree about the Clonazepam. I take it about an hour before going to bed and take an extra Sinemet at the same time. I also sleep a good 7-8 hours.

I will rephrase

Shallow sleep, short, approx 3 hrs, then awake long enough to urinate get a drink, make sure those noises in my ears are not real smoke alarms some where and then back to sleep results in a good nights sleep . I take two Sinemet before bed and do move around a bit.

Conversely, deep sleep, I lay there asleep without moving so much as an eyebrow for 8 or 9 hrs. In the morning everything hurts, no blood flow, wake up shaking and frozen, silly dreams all night. Not sure yet what causes the deep sleep. Be careful taking anything that deepens sleep and takes away abilities to move around.

Total Sinemet per day = 8

This is a side effect of Sinemet (carbidopa-levodopa). Try taking 2 Benadryl before you go to bed to put you into a deeper sleep.
