exercise and the brain
John Pepper is right!!
Why has it taken so long to realise this? With little or no exercise incorporated in tHe school curriculum ,most people driving everywhere, using lifts not stairs, being a nation of couch potatoes!
I remember when I started my nurse training they were still having an exercise session before breakfast. The Japanese were doing compulsory exercise before starting work in the car plants and during the shifts, we had PE of some sort every day at school and we played games in our breaks not stood around looking at a screen.
Exercise has long been known to be the stressor of stress it's just we didn't have the tools to measure the how and why.Im so glad I've always been active and am keeping the PD in check. Its not going to cure PD but why increase meds or add new ones when you can improve by regular exercise.. You never know you might Even enjoy it!
Consistent research supports your post - I find, now with my Parky, I have to persistently push myself into exercise (especially flexibility). I enjoy my hour FastWalk every 2nd. day!!
I'm not sure what fits the "acute" exercise description but I definitely find benefits in many ways when I exercise, plus my daily BIG exercises. Thankful to have slow increase of symptoms.
I am coming at this from the patient's viewpoint. Through fast walking I have been able to overcome many of my Pd symptoms and as long as I keep on doing the walking I stay well.
In a study done at the Frenchay Hospital in Bristol in 2003, 6 patients received a regular supply of GDNF to the substantia Nigra and all patients got appreciably better.
No mention is made of GDNF in this study.
I have found that doing the fast walking every day instead of every second day is not as successful, because the muscles need time to recover from high level exercise.
I have also found that if I don't walk as fast as possible I don't get the same results.
Rocksteady Boxing is an opportunity to increase your physical strength, your mental conditioning and, not talked about enough, the best PWP support group available. Look for one in your area. If none there look for a gym that would like to do something great for America.
Mohammed Ali exsercise all his life. He still got Parkinson. Just to take the other side for the argument.
