Am researching marijuana use in PD. Anyone know anything? A lot of the Youtubes seem to be by pro-weed people with an agenda.

I thought it was helping my dystonia but recently it does not seem to matter. You should make sure that your strain is high in cbd' s and cbn'S.

Exactly - always money to be made. I wouldn't even consider taking it.

It helps my 76 year old husband with tremors, sleeping and feeling calmer. High CBD's are the ticket.

You will find very little in the U.S. Researchers are barred from exploring the use of marijuana in medical treatment because here it is classified as a controlled substance. Pretty silly. That is why many researchers interested in this area are moving to institutions in Israel and the UK to carry out studies. Check Tel Aviv University. There seems to be a lot happening there.

It's a safe way to relax, help sleep on occasion, reduce pain, and I believe reduce inflammation in the brain. People are pretty serious about it reducing tremors, but now that I think about it, I've never performed the test. Knowing how much I research this stuff, me not trying to test my tremors is an indication of how much it can help you relax. It's not a sin or toxic like cigarettes or pharmaceuticals, and next year it will be legal over the counter in Washington DC for everyone of age, the first place for non-medical use in the country. Apparently different rules apply to the leaders of the country.

You need to use a small water bong.

Look for "happy" weed instead of "powerful", "creepy", or one that "sneaks up on you". People with anxiety could do without the high THC. They need the CBD that is the relaxing compound. THC is the one that is more psychoactive and makes it much more "interesting". People will go so far as to claim high CBD weed is not really real weed, so even the judgmental people can chill out and not feel bad about going against Nancy Reagan. Nancy was only referring to high THC weed.

What about people who just can't ingest any smoke. Tried it once with a water pipe, took one swallow and became deathly ill, vomited and drank lots of water and then rest. The same thing happens to me with nicotine, only worse, became dizzy, faint, vomiting and about two hours later was able to get up without incident.

I forgot to mention "do not swallow while holding your breath in" during a smoke. You hold your breath to make more of it absorb in your lung. Swallowing the smoke makes you nauseous.

If you mean you swallowed bong water, yeah, I'm sure it could be unpleasant.

The water bong, for those who don't know, lets the smoke bubble through water before inhaling which cools off the smoke and removes some of the other chemicals so your throat does not burn so that you do not cough. For beginners, the smallest one you can find is good enough.

Also, for small doses, it does not reduce my tremor. But I think it dose for stronger doses. I just haven't tested it very well.

For me weed a GOD send. Smoke every day more than once a day. Yet 1oz last a year.

I smoke weed and find it helps with my tremors as well as enhances my workouts. A little buzz seems to heighten the awareness of your muscles, which increases the intensity of my workout. Also (if I don't over do it), it relieves my anxiety and helps me relax.

zawy (in his previous comment) provides some good advice. I would add that little emphasis of the TCH once in a while can be exhilarating and release a little creativeness you might be hiding.

I know this sounds ignorant and I am about weed. Is there a type ? I looked on YouTube and there were all sorts of varieties. Yikes! We are real novices and know nothing.

Basically, Cannabis Sativa is higher in THC vs CBD. Cannabis Indica is the opposite. In general, Sativa provides a "brain high" that's more phsycoactive where Indica provides a physical high, which is preferred from a medicinal perspective.

difficult to even get to know the different types and strains, when living in a country where it is illegal and you have to get it from dubious characters, so I'm chickening out! :)

I understand it causes short term memory loss-we have enough of that already!

That's what I've heard. Still, I managed a successful career as...a mid-level executive... for 35 years.

That does tend to pose a problem.

I use edibles, chocolate bar. I find it helps enormously with anxiety and depression. Not so much for pain, unfortunately, since that is my primary problem at this point. I find very little, about 2mg THC and 2mg CBD, 1/32 of a bar made by Bhang, is enough to help me enormously. I had never used marijuana before so I'm sure that's why so little is effective.

Thanks. How does one get the chocolate bar? Btw theanine is REALLY good with anxiety and depression. My husband uses 40g 3x daily at 7am/12pm/5pm and 300mf at bedtime.

Hi, I've tried MM in food, cakes, cookies, and in tea, etc. Haven't noticed any difference at all, PD or not. But I am just trying the ordinary dry weed, usually used for smoking. I have a friend who has one drop of Cannabis Oil at night, it greatly improves his sleeping, which was almost non existent and restless, But as I don't have a sleeping problem, I'm going to stop taking it, I think as with the PD meds, what suits one doesn't always suit another...... try it for yourself, I was very disappointed, I expected, at least to stop trembling, failing that some psychedelic dreams would have been nice! :)

It slows my tremor to virtually non existent however by the time I have enough to sustain for any period of time I'm not able to do the things I need to do like go to work!!

I am anti-drug when it comes to recreational use but I am very pro the use of medical marijuana now after seeing how helpful it has been for my husband who started smoking a year or two ago after his tremors, rigidity and discomfort got really bad and his quality of life was miserable. He takes just one toke at some point after lunch from a vaporizer pipe and within a few minutes is very calm and relaxed and shows significantly reduced tremors. His tremors are extremely tied into his stress response system- he can't tolerate loud talking or other loud noises or practically any news or excitement- good or bad, without a shaking reaction. The pot does make him high so he doesn't want to use it other times of the day (doesn't want to always be high or have others see him high), but he needs the respite in the afternoon. I remember one day when he was so miserable and desperate- frozen and in so much discomfort- and unable to eat lunch- I helped him stand and walk around to try to unfreeze him- he had to hold onto my shoulders as we walked, had to change positions a lot due to his discomfort, and I tried to massage out his leg and foot cramps and stretch his arms to give him some relief- and then I helped him get down to his man cave to take a toke. He soon settled down a bit and I went upstairs and a few minutes later he was upstairs moving normally, scrounging in the fridge, making himself something to eat, and calmly eating lunch like the crisis had never happened. Night and day! Then he relaxed very calmly and peacefully on the couch. He didn't take any other medication then. He still has his witching hours every day, but he only takes Sinemet at around 6:30 a.m., 8:30 p.m. and when he wakes up in the middle of the night. He has had P.D. for 20 years so there is a very fine line between the Sinemet working and making it worse (due to the dyskinesia side effects). But it works for him in the night hours and morning, and the one toke of marijuana gets him through his whole afternoon. Now that he has his new medical marijuana license, I am hoping he can try the kind of pot that has the "high" taken out of it so he will feel free to take it more often during the day instead of just the one time. But it will be interesting to see if he still gets the deeply calming effect without the high that goes along with it. I had voted against the medical marijuana law, not believing the validity of it truly helping people who are ill, till I saw it for myself. Shame on me.

Wow. Your husband sounds just like me. It took a few years but I am just about leveled out. I take 150 mg of sertraline and 0.25 mg of alprazolam a day. I am very conflicted right now because my state is looking at legalizing it for recreational use. Like you I don't agree about the recreational side of it but 150.00$ for a prescription and another 150.00$ for a card just to see if it will help you is ridiculous. Then you have to buy the product. What are your feelings on legalizing, making it cheap to try or sticking with medical so research will be done on it? I am concerned that legalizing it will stop positive research on it.

Evidence suggests that cannabis could potentially slow the progression of Parkinson’s by providing neuroprotective effects. The cannabinoids found in cannabis are able to suppress excitotoxicity, glial activation and oxidative injury that cause the degeneration of the dopamine-releasing neurons. In addition, they improve the function of cell’s mitochondria and activation of cellular debris clearance, further encouraging neuron health (More & Choi, 2015) (Garcia-Arencibia, Garcia & Fernandez-Ruiz, 2009) (Lastres-Becker & Fernandez-Ruiz, 2006) (Zeissler, et al., 2013). Researchers have found evidence that one specific cannabinoid found in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), helps in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease by assisting in the prevention of damage caused by free radicals and activating a receptor that encourages the formation of new mitochondria (Zeissler, et al., 2013). Another major cannabinoid found in cannabis, cannabidiol (CBD), has also demonstrated its ability to support the health of neural cells mitochondria, causing the researchers concluded that CBD should be considered as a potential therapeutic option in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s because of its neuroprotective properties (da Silva, et al., 2014) (Zuardi, 2008). - See more at: medicalmarijuanainc.com/par...
