I agree. Mornings are best. Can go hours with no meds. Then it's time for a pill and a nap!

From my experience sleep does not control tremors exactly, but if I have a poor nights sleep my tremors are worse next day!

I don't tremor but I can agree that tiredness makes my symptoms worse. Particularly hand writing. I can make a list of things, cannot even read it myself, but go for a 15 minute power nap and then make a list that others can read.

Yes-I love sleep and I love meditation. If I can meditate it is like my autonomic nervous system smoothes out. I extends my non- tremor periods quite a bit if I go deep inside of myself.

I've always wanted to learn to meditate, but whenever I try to, my mind gets distracted. Did you learn meditate from a book? If so, which one?

Meditation can be done any time, morning is better, solitude is desired. Please start praying in a relaxed posture with you eyes closed, it helps you to concentrate. This is the first step. Please note that you achieve whatever you pray. I will get you a list of books.

Thank you sghaldia

I Am more aware of coming to a 'deeper place' since I developed Parkinson's than I would have been without it. Although I have never met anybody on this site since joining it over a year ago, I certainly feel as though I really 'know' a lot of PwP and their carers. I would appreciate you adding a list of books that will help us as we tread this path together.

Norton

Thank you Sghaldia for getting back to me as you said you would and thank you too for the information with the link. A question for you. Does meditation compensate for shortage of sleep? Or does it enable a PwP to drift into sleep?

Norton,

Meditation helps in controlling the mind,it helps spiritually, one can manage his thoughts and deeds better.

It is not a subsitute for sleep rather it brings in bliss and peace in life..

Thank you Sghaldia. I must admit that some days, more than others, I feel the need to get my spiritual lift in order.

Kind regards

If you don't go within you must go without!!!

You got that one right!

Not exactly. I think 'critical' would be more apt when discussing sleep and PD.

I just put on some quiet music, get warm, and breathe deeply and slowly into my belly. You can focus on your breath like a wheel, smoothly turning, breathing, allowing, releasing with each breath. You can also use a simple mantra-there are several you can find online. I got a personal mantra when I went through Transcendental Meditation training many years ago. Everyone has thoughts that intrude in their heads when they meditate. That is quite normal - just keep breathing and/or saying your mantra and let your thoughts flow by through like clouds crossing overhead Just remember that whatever you experience is okay. The mere act of sitting, resting, and relaxing is all great stuff. There is no perfect meditation or perfect meditator. It is the intention to sit with your inner Self that counts the most. And....enjoy taking care of yourself in this way. It is so good for your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Excellent for Parkinson's for sure. it gives us another way to respond to our life. Give it a try...And Blessings along the way. Namaste, Nansy

Thank you Movinngroovin for taking the trouble describing how to meditate. I will try it, because whether I succeed or not is entirely down to me. Anything to improve my well being.

THANK YOU.

I am like Norton - cannot meditate for the life of me. Not even during qi gong. My mind wanders. I'm Chinese, am supposed to be able to be meditate and be more Eastern in my behavior!!! Guess I got corrupted by Western culture since the age of 10.....ha ha ha!

Thank you DeParkiePoet ! The link really was very relaxing - I will keep using it daily until I can meditate on my own - it really helps to hear a calming voice with the music. I watched the McMovie also. Also realized that the music on my own website is quite meditative as well and I would like to share it , if I may.

tuanyu.com

The website documents all my artwork throughout the years - thanks to my husband who created the site. Thanks also for your excellent, expressive poems that you have shared with us from time to time.

I really appreciate your very kind words about my Poetry. My MC movie was written for a fundraiser for Neuro Challenge Foundation.

Do Itashimashite DeParkiePoet sama. Thank you for that very formal and correct greeting. I just saw a video of you when you tried out the Fuctional Cranial Release. Did you continue with this treatment. Are you still getting relief from it?

Ohayō watashi wa anata ga yoku aru koto o negatte imasu!

I did so many therapies that day that it is hard to recall exactly what was or was not effective! I did the FCR, Hyperbaric O2, Inhaled glutathione and some chiropractor work. when I look at that video now I can't believe the difference in me. But the DC is a little off=putting, so I have not returned. I am doing a fundraiser for a PD support group this week so I am busy, but I'd love to continue talking to you...
