Pollyanna, I too have a problem with the jaw/chin quiver,(not too attractive if one has a little extra "chin skin". I wear a plastic medical mouthpiece, mostly at night to keep from grinding my teeth while sleeping. Another thing worth trying is chewing gum. It may not be socially acceptable but it keeps your jaw busy with voluntary movement and it may well help with your problem.

Good Luck

I have the same problem when i am in the 'off' period. I also use chewing gum which is slightly effective. Looking for other effective advises.

Thanks and will try the gum. Socially acceptable or not, wil beat what I have now. Will get back tomorrow!

All ideas accepted with gratitude.

Any ideas on drooling ,more n one side than other. Do you think the gum would help this as Dr said I do not swallow enough and is typical of PD ?

What your doctor says is true, but chewing the gum, in most cases, triggers the automatic swallowing impulse, keeping the saliva from building up. ( Not much help but maybe some.)

(Who would have believed, a few years ago, that we would be discussing such things?)

Have a great day.

How true, how fast our lives change from discussing today's events to gum chewing!

However, life's tidbits from other have been a blessing for me.

Stumbling on to this thread has been a world of comfort and free expression for me,ie; drooling and flapping jaws , as you said

Earlier, who would have thought this in earlier years!

MY husband has early onset Parkinson's. He had a very active mouth/ tongue tremor. I just asked him what advice I should write here to you. His answer was like the others, chewing gum. It does help him a lot and it also helped him with the drool. He recently started a new medication for him, Amatadine 100mg along with the Azilect he has been taking for 2 years and the tremor stopped! We are feeling very blessed. Best Wishes to you. Let us know how you make out.

Have tried the gum and so far I can really tell a small difference. Not being a gum chewer I have. bit my jaw several times. I have to slow the pace down!

Having a partial plate I tried several kinds and hit upon one that lasts eons. It looks like an old fashion chiclets but is not, but it works and keeps the flavor.

Thanks to everyone about the gum."........ I hide it in my cheek when around others.

One of my first symptoms was chin shivering, quite a few months before diagnosis in June 2010. It went away wiwth my first medication, Azilect and Stalevo, and never returned.
