Yes, I have a recliner / lifter - I was given it by acquaintances so know little about its history, apart from it was used by one of their mothers.

It's labelled pride health care inc pittston pa, model 214625. Bought in UK.

It is wonderful - when worn off it's easy to get out of - when restless leg and/or dystonia in foot strikes, it is much easier to find a relaxing position. I'd hate to be without it.

Visit a specialist shop or disabled supplier, make sure you try them out yourself for space and comfort and that the hand control is readily available and you have not to struggle over the side of the chair to reach it.

If you live in UK AND ARE BADLY AFFECTED GET IN TOuch WITH THE OT . If she thinks you need one they might provide it for you free of charge . Not in every case though .

Yes I have had one for about a year now; got it via my local mobility shop and wouldn't be without it!

It is really worth getting a "Dual Motor" one - these allow a far greater range of movements than the single motor ones but usually cost about £100 more; also, having bought locally (it cost me about £750) if anything does go wrong it is easily fixed under warranty - mine had one cable that had been too tightly 'tied' at manufacture and caused a failure - all sorted by mobility shop. :)

I don't know where you're located, but in the US, La-Z-boy is a great brand. Tried one out last week. Wonderful.

Thanks everyone, we are in California, USA. Will be looking in to getting him one today.I really wish I had thought of getting one sooner, am having shoulder problem from lifting him. My husband suffered from a fall in June of 2009 causing severe head injury to his brain, two bleeds and fractured skull, life has never been the same, causing more problem with his mobility, etc. He has to wear a helmet when he is up since his fall. I appreciate all you that posted, thank you. Most of his health issues now is caused from the fall. I highly recommend anyone with severe mobility problems to consider wearing a helmet, brain injuries are devasting. God Bless you all, prayers lifted daily for all enduring any and all health issues one has to face in life, am thankful God Blesses me day and night to do total care for my dear husband, kind regards, Patti

We have the Golden Technology lift chair, and love it. Make sure you get it according to his height. Get the zero gravity, where the feet can go a little higher than the head. My dad and husband are both parkinson patients and love their chairs. If you have a pup or animal around -- put the cords in hose tubing -- so no chewing goes on. The chair has nice wide strong arms.

Which one did you get, there is quite a few. Wonder if leather is a good choice? Thanks, Patti

Patti, We are in California also. It sounds like your husband's need is for a "lift" chair to help him get up but they also come combined with the features of a recliner with the choice of 2 stop, 3 stop or one which can be made to stop at any point within the chair's range of travel. The more the chair does, of course, the higher the cost. One piece of advice, when shopping for a chair, ask about the warranty on the power train. I have a power chair, bought in San Diego, which no longer works and is too costly to repair. It's OK.. I prefer my old manual recliner/rocker anyway................Wishing you and your husband well.
