Is anyone else sensitive to medication? a... - Cure Parkinson's
Is anyone else sensitive to medication? anti depressants cause confusion, pramepexole made me very ill, couldnt walk talk or function?
Yes... in a nutshell. I'm seeing a new psychiatrist and slowly ramping up on antidepressants. I feel like sleeping all day, hardly an improvement.
Ive had parkinsons for a long time, misdiagnosed as depression, thank god for the DAT scan. I am to see another neurologist as im told it may be Lewy body desease that comes with parkinsons, sensitivity to medication is one symptom of lewy body, I have quite a few. Find all this very confusing and cant find anything on the site about lewy body. Doctors will not treat me at the moment, I have to wait due to the severe drug reactions.
I am just curious on how you got misdiagnosed for having PD but instead it was depression? What is a DAT Scan? I hope that the neurologist will diagnosed you the right way of what you may have!!
I have early onset parkinsons desease, have had it for a long time, my old gp passed it off as depression. He tried me on so many anti depressants each time I had bad reactions. When my left side of body became slow, no left arm swing, slow dragging leg, he sent me for the DAT scan, said they wouldnt find anything! the DAT scan shows dopamine in the brain, or lack of, mine showed I have Parkinsons.
Thanks for the answers to my questions as I do not think I have ever had a DAT scan to detect my PD. I had a MRI which show lack of dopamine!Hope you are able to be treated soon .
Yes, I have found that the longer you have this disease the more drug allergies you developed. Sometimes the meds you are on will make you more susceptible to drug allergies and sensitivities to a new drug the Doctor may want you to try. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about possible drug interactions that may cause side effects.
Thankyou so much, I will talk to my doctor.
I was diagnosed in 1993, but told that it was probably started about 1988, and I take Mirapex, Amantadine, and Sinemet. I had a very hard time about 2 - 3 years ago when I was given the painkiller Lyrica following my 4th back surgery. It handled the pain just fine, but it interacted with one of my PD meds and caused severe hallucinations. You don't ever want that. It was awful, and then it happened twice again when I had a Reclast treatment (a once-yearly IV medication to treat osteoporosis). They were unable to ascertain which Parkinson's medication] was the culprit, so needless to say, both Lyrica and Reclast are off my menu of meds.
YES. OMG thought I was dying when I took Mirapexin, never felt so ill. Turns out I don't tolerate DA's well. I am now taking a very low dose of Requip XL (any more and i get hallucinations, sparkly vision, sleep paralysis etc) but my lifesavers were Azilect and Amitriptyline. Made a huge difference.
The Mirapex made my ankles swell, so the Dr has taken me off of that and the swelling went down. I was taking Azilect but my Dr just switched to selegline instead of the Azilect. I have no medical insurance and no income.the Azilect costs $400/month.
