Is there an organization coordinating protest about the co-pays on xeljans? My doc recomended it but I refuse to pay a $800 monthly copay.

I was able to get the Xelganz free as I couldn't afford the copay . I called the company and after submitting some paperwork they started sending it monthly . They wanted to know the combined income for the 3 people in our household to determine if I was eligible . I think the cutoff is about 4 times the poverty rate. Unfortunately I stopped the Xelganz for about a week because I was having a procedure on my knee and when I restarted it I found it didn't work anymore . Hope this helps.

Hi 2impeach,

With a lot of the RA drugs you have to get these drugs Pre authorized through your insurance. I say this out of experience as I have had to change medication 3 times in the last year and a half and my insurance required this process. Double check with your doctor and ask him if he has called your insurance company's pharmacy management department. The doctor will need to send over medical records to show what medications you have been taking, results from those treatments and the reason why for this specific medication. Depending on how fast the insurance company receives the complete info from your doctor the review process can take between 24 - 72 hours; depending on where you live.

Also, the drug manufacturer, Pfizer, has a copay savings card that you can see if you qualify for on their website. They also have one other low income program to help people afford their medications. I am currently being treated with very expensive infusion therapy that I could never afford, even with my insurance. I was able to get the copay savings card from the drug manufacturer and instead of having to pay around $600 per infusion, I only pay $5 per infusion. Here is the link to the one for Xeljanz:

I hope this information helps. I wish you the best of luck on your journey. 🙏😌 -Jen

Check with the drug company to see if they can help with the costs. Many have programs to do that. Good luck.
