What alternative drugs are safe for lowering of cholesterol?. Statin (Lipitol) gave me muscle pain. I have discontinued it. My BP is high.

If you want to stay with conventional medicines, there are other statins. Lipitor is only one, which caused me problems too - click my name to read more. I'm now ok on simvastatin.

Other drugs include fibrates - look on the main heart UK site for the fact sheets.

Might be no harm making sure your diet has enough vitamins, though.

I failed on all the prescribed drugs and ended up with such severe muscle pain that I was super sensitive to being touched. This in turn left me unable to do routine breast exams and a positive lump was found in May this year. I have been taking slightly larger than recommended doses of Plant Sterols and Omega 3 for a couple of years now. These did bring my cholesterol down to an acceptable level, BUT this rose again within days of stopping - as advised pre-operatively. - and will possibly take 6 months to recover again.. My problem is type 2 diabetes, so I do not know if these treatment is OK for cardiac sufferers

Thanks everyone. Thus far I have been trying to see which of the options suggested would suit me most, particularly as I am disposed more to non-drug, but dietary solutions. Meanwhile flaxseed oil capsule is part of the drugs earlier suggested to me by a neighbour which I have been using in combination with more of vegetables and fresh fruits rather than cooked food. My BP level is already improving, and I am waiting to see how sustainable this improvement will be before I recommend it to others too. I will soon check my cholesterol level too to see how far it has gone. I have taken not of Ted's comment too on ground flax seed and would try that in place of the capsule.
