I, too, am on 75mg aspirin daily. I'm sure if there was any problem with this, my consultant will let me know whether to keep taking them.
Hi,
Many people had stomach problems with aspirin! Please discuss aspirin issues like stomach problems with your doctor.
Hi,
I had a triple bypass in 2009 and since I was allergic to aspirin was put on Clopidogrel instead. Last year had a number of stomach issues and a gastric endoscopy revealed that I was suffering from Gastritis caused by Clopidogrel. You cant win, if you need your platelets reduce you have to take the risks. My stomach problem was helped with Lansoprazole

Aspirin was originally extracted from plants but is now made synthetically. Salicylates are found in foods from plants
What are salicylates?
Salicylates are chemicals that occur naturally in many plants – they're a kind of natural pesticide – to protect the plants against insects and diseases. Salicylates are just one group of the hundreds of compounds in foods that can have varying effects on us, depending on how much we eat and how sensitive we are.
What kinds of foods/products are they found in?
Salicylates are found in foods from plants: most fruit, some vegetables, herbs, spices, tea and flavour additives. For example, citrus fruit, berries, tomato sauce and mint flavouring are naturally high in salicylates and so are processed foods with those flavours.
Salicylates are also found in medications, fragrances, industrial chemicals, plastics and some pesticides, and can cause adverse effects when inhaled as well as eaten.
What are some of the symptoms of salicylate sensitivity?
•headaches or migraines
•itchy skin rashes such as hives (urticaria), eczema and others
•irritable bowel symptoms – reflux in babies or adults, nausea, vomiting, stomach bloating and discomfort, wind, diarrhoea and/or constipation
•bedwetting, cystitis
•asthma, stuffy or runny nose, nasal polyps, frequent throat clearing,
•behaviour problems such as irritability, restlessness, inattention, oppositional defiance, symptoms of ADHD
•sleep disturbance - difficulty falling asleep, night terrors, frequent night waking, sleep apnoea
•anxiety, depression, panic attacks
•rapid heart beat and arrythmias
•tinnitus, hyperacusis, hearing loss
•joint pain, arthritis, and more ….
Aspirin intolerance and salicylates
Aspirin is one of the oldest medicines known, and is common in many traditional medicine remedies including Chinese medicines. Aspirin was originally extracted from plants but is now made synthetically. A number of similar medicines have now been produced, and this group of medicines is known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs or NSAIDs. Other NSAIDs are naproxen and ibuprofen (Nurofen).
Like all medicines, aspirin and NSAIDs have side effects. Common side effects include bruising and stomach upset (or even ulcers or bleeding from the bowel), at high dose. Very high doses may cause confusion or ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Aspirin should not be used in children, as it can trigger severe liver damage (known as Reye's syndrome). Ibuprofen (Nurofen) and other NSAIDs are safe to use in children.
