Could medical opinion finally be shifting towards highlighting the dangers of sugar over fat? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24625808
I was happily surprised to hear a main stream cardiologist say he recommends his heart patients eat butter rather than tub margarine, and avoid white flour, processed food and especially avoid sugar.
Thanks for posting the link. Very interesting reading and it was good to have access to the whole article. I am looking forward to reading more rapid responses on the BMJ site.
There was also a short piece on Newsnight last night about this. Dr Michael saying he would rather have butter and Jeremy Paxman making his usual cutting comments about being bombarded with information about what we should and shouldn't eat.
There is now evidence, and not just from the "professionals" that sugar, and the effect of carbohydrates on the body that change to sugars in the system, that sugar of all kinds is the culprit! This does not mean that you cannot have sugar - no - it just means that you should stop eating so much processed food! ~The amount of sugar in some processed food, even savouries, is extraordinary, and very concerning! I have been analysing as a personal challenge the ratio of sugars in some processed foods to the "recipe" that I find in my cookbooks and the ratio is huge! Sometimes almost 2:1 This is unacceptable, and the sugars concerned are only used as a means of preserving because of the panic over salt! With the reduction of salt in processed food the ratio of sugar has gone up to compensate! Therefore, the way forward is to avoid them and eat those foods at home and made from scratch!
