I assume supplements like Krilloil, Astaxanthin and Niacin (Vitamin B3) do not count as medicine, but they are an integral part of my excellent cholesterol serum values

Using the NHS 12 week plan and c25k to change my lifestyle and lose weight. Getting my bmi down to a healthy range.

I was asked to take part in the trial after a triple bypass in 2009. It is an NHS trial being conducted by Oxford University and involves me taking the trial drug Anacetrapib together with a statin, namely Atorvastatin. The statin is half of the dose before the start of the trial.

As you will appreciate it is a randomized trial so I don't know whether I am taking the real drug or the placebo. Results are good though, my cholesterol is usually in the low 4s and combined with low LDL and High HDL looks great.

I am also a Type 2 (LADA) Diabetic on insulin, hypothyroid, COPD with mild heart failure. As you can imagine I take diet and cholesterol seriously and follow a Glycemic Load diet.

I have joined Slimming World and have lost just over a stone in 18 weeks. This has brought me out of the diabetic range, from 42 to 40, and hopefully when I next am tested for cholesterol that too will have decreased.

I do all of the above (am on 20mg statin), and take Kyolic Garlic twice daily and a 75mg aspirin. My last two, annual blood tests for cholesterold showed 'normal' results. You have to find a formula that works for you and your body - I don't believe there is a 'one size fits all' solution, if, indeed, cholesterol is the problem.
