If you or your child has a disability and plans to stay in education after 16, you should consider making a credits only claim for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). This will trigger a work capability assessment, which if the DWP agrees that you/your child has a limited capability for work; ensures that you/your child can later claim universal credit in their own right even if they end up staying in non advanced education beyond their 19th birthday.
