It's the Jewish New Year today. You blow a shofar to ring in the new year and you also eat apples and honey to hope for a sweet and happy new year. Rosh Hashanah means Head of the new year.

All Jewish holidays start at sundown the night before. Same with Shabbat ( every Friday evening into Saturday night).
