Hi , just had a LFT test and it came back as 49 iu/L ( ALT/SGPT) SERUM LEVEL. Is this high and should I be worried?

Possibly not, depends on the range and if it's an isolated one off result. You can't really look at just one LFT result, there would need to be several out of range to get docs interested and results only mildly over range are generally not that important. Best thing is to cut out alcohol and reduce fats you eat then monitor it and see how things go.

My LFTs (ALP, GGT and ALT) have been hugely over range for over 10 years yet no cause has ever been found.

Thank you.. Every other test has come back fine?

Hi John, It's rather hard to say as we don't know why you were ordered the test to begin with. Bantam12 is quite right to say that one test that's out of normal range doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem, but being persistently out of range might indicate something is going on. But even then, it's not a given that there is something serious wrong. Often it's an indication that a couple of lifestyle changes would be advisable.

But, as always, discuss your test results with a practising medical professional and, if you haven't been recalled to discuss, and you are still uneasy, do make a routine appointment to go back and ask whatever you need to know.

Very best wishes, and please don't worry unduly at the moment.
