Hi JAS,

Your later post has sort of eclipsed this one but I must agree that my concern with 'googling it', is those people who can't rely on online advice to obtain information, and may even never see it. It's been so, so easy, for almost everyone, health services included, to transfer everything online and expect all of us to have it accessible to us. Sadly those people who are likely to need this sort of information most, are probably the least likely to see it. A lot of the older generation still don't use computers at all. And therefore it's vital that, if you are worried about anyone's weight loss, to go and have that conversation with a GP.

Hi Callendersgal I defo agree ABOUT seeing gp about weight loss BUT given nice guidelines lot gps will dismiss nutrition issues WELL unless alcoholic.

Have lost 3 kg in weight HAVE stomach issues NICE guidance says I should see diet doctor YET gp dismissed my concerns even tho under oncologist.

Perhaps I should gone doctors with can in my hand or bottle scotch.

Hi JAS,

I think it's hard these days to express your concerns to some GPs. We never seem to see the same one twice and that certainly shows up the deficiencies in some of them, in terms of both knowledge and even the treatment you receive, sometimes. But I'd always say that, if you aren't happy with any aspect of your care, take it to the Practice Manager. They are obligated, when contacted by a patient to take action within a set period of time, and to report what the solution was, to your local PALS. Last time I found myself having to complain to my own practice manager, (and it's something I haven't had to do often), I was contacted in no time flat by PALS to see whether my legitimate concern had been properly addressed by the GP practice.

I think we are in a merry mess with our current GP situation. There aren't enough to go around, most seem only to want to work part time to fit in with their own family lives, and it all adds up to a very unsatisfactory picture for we patients.

But, even though it's a trial and a tribulation, I hope you'll keep chipping away at them, because it seems to be the only option, on some occasions, to get things moving. And it must be a worry for you to have lost a lot of weight suddenly.
