plenty of fruit and veg, brown bread/rice/pasta, cut right down on sugary and fatty foods and do as much exercise as you can.

Hi Healthcare01,

First of all a warm welcome to the Care Community. You don't say whether you have discussed with your doctor the possibility of controlling your blood pressure through diet and exercise, and, if you haven't, your first step should really be to check with him/her that it's OK to try this. Often if blood pressure is high it really does need medication to at least help you to bring it under control in the early stages. Also, if you've opted for the diet and exercise route, you should be getting some advice about eating healthily and what exercise is suitable for you as an individual, via your GP surgery.

One of the most useful websites for heart health and blood pressure is the British Heart Foundation. Heart health and blood pressure are closely related and there are common-sense suggestions there which you can follow easily with regard to diet.

And to increase your exercise it's recommended to make a plan to go out to walk regularly. The link is:

This particular Care forum on HealthUnlocked is geared more towards carers of other people than caring for yourself and I know there is at least one community that is especially for people with high blood pressure. And it's called High Blood Pressure Support. That may be a more fruitful group for you than we are. You can find it by searching all communities at HealthUnlocked. But of course we are delighted for you to stay here with us, if you find us useful.

Very best wishes and good luck!
