Second ENT appointment yesterday...better than the first one!

Good Morning Everyone,

Had my second ENT appointment yesterday. This is one I ended up arranging myself, as my first appointment was uneventful and disappointing. My GP advised I get a second opinion from a different Consultant...so this is what I did.

The Consultant actually listened to everything I had to say and answered all of my questions. The slight hearing loss I have in my T ear is so slight that I won't even notice it and Hearing Aids would be of no benefit to me whatsoever. I explained to him that I was struggling during the day with spikes and trying to manage the T was becoming somewhat tiring. Then I heard those magic words I wanted to hear..."I'll refer you to Audiology"...but even better..."I'll refer you for Tinnitus Retraining Therapy". This has got to be worth a try to see if it works. It's better than nothing and it is way more than was offered at my first appointment. I didn't even get chance to speak...was ushered out as quick as I was ushered in!!

Anyway, If there is anyone out there who has had this kind of Therapy, then I would love to hear from you and what your outcome was. I'm up for trying anything. If it helps, then that's a big bonus for me :)

All I have to do is wait for an appointment now and then I'll be well onto the next stage of my T journey :)

Hi Suz26,

Hope you're doing OK.

I will be referred to the Audiology Department at my local hospital :)

That's great news MOLKO1972 !!! It proves it's always worth having a second opinion even if you have to arrange it yourself. I hope TRT works well for you. I was offered the same last year but it hasn't materialised yet . The local hospital here is super slow. Hopefully it will be quicker for you.

Did you see ENT consultant on NHS or private?

It was on NHS 🙂

How long did you have to wait? I'm seeing the same ENT next week but privately as I thought NHS wait would take forever.

My first appointment back in November was a 5 month wait and that was a cancellation. I then had a MRI scan in March. After that I was given an open appointment for 6 months, so I just organised the second one myself, which was literally a month wait.

I've been happy with the service of the NHS.

Good to know that you have had a positive experience with your hospital.

It all depends on the Trust.

I had a diagnosis from ENT (over the telephone) and they said I have mild intermittent T. As I have mentioned in previous posts, the T is mainly behaving and I get the odd day or maybe two where I hear 'something'. Mainly though it is quiet and peaceful almost as if it sleeps.

I saw Audiology last year and they gave me HAs (they are the newer and up to date ones) so have been a good girl and have worn them as recommended. I have a mild to moderate hearing loss especially in the left ear.

I was looking into TRT last year but costly as in Harley Street, London. I would like to know how you get on MOLKO1972 with your TRT.

The brain is malleable and can adapt to new things in time. Have a positive mindset when you go for your first appointment and good luck.

I wish my T was intermittent, but I don't seem to get any relief from it whatsoever. It is pretty much relentless at the moment.

I am looking forward to the TRT, but I am sure there must be a long waiting list for it!

I shall let you know how I get on for sure :)

That's great news MOLKO1972 . Hopefully your T will improve - very positive experience getting a second opinion too. x

Ahh thank you!

I'm sure there is a waiting list as long as my arm though, but there's no rush...I can wait :)

Hope you're doing OK :)
