Has anyone tried this diet regime?

My husband was diagnosed with NAFLD about two years ago. Recently his readings and scans have deteriorated and he was told he had to lose some weight, change his diet etc. He has lost just over a stone in about 6 weeks but it has now slowed down and has made him somewhat disheartened.

He tells me he has been doing some research and has seen some articles which advocate an eating plan which consists of only eating in a six hour window, having three meals during the six hours but nothing outside of that ( drinking water and coffee can be any time though). Also, fasting completely for one day per week. He’s thinking of giving this a try but I’m a bit concerned as to whether it’s a good thing or not ( he’s type 2 diabetic).

I’d be grateful if anyone could let me know if they’ve followed this plan or have read about it.

Dear Mueslimuncher

Eating a good, balanced diet is essential to maintain his strength and a healthy weight. Here is the link to information on Diet and Liver Disease on our website, which you may find useful

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

This section below is specific to your husband's condition

britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

He might also need to change the food he eats depending on:

the type of liver disease

the stage of the damage to the liver - people living with cirrhosis have special dietary needs

any eating difficulties experienced such as loss of appetite or feeling sick (nausea)

If your husband has already been given dietary advice he should not make changes without first talking to his consultant or dietitian. If he hasn't seen a dietitian, or he has specific questions about his diet, your husband can ask his doctor to refer him to speak with a dietician.

The below link takes you to information on the British Liver Trust website about diet and exercise, which you may find useful too

If you would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays)

Best wishes

I had lab work scheduled last month and the day before I was caught up in rescuing a dog so I only had time to eat a banana all day. The next morning they drew blood. The results were so bad they had to repeat the labs last week after I went back to a regular diet for 5 weeks.

Going without food stresses your body too much. Generally I eat 3 small meals and healthy snacks in between and find its easy to lose weight with exercise. A good place to start is cut back on sugar.
