stages of cirrhosis

can any one tell me if there are any stages of cirrhosis and how they relate to a fibroscan reading ?

As far as fibroscan goes it only reveals what stage of fibrosis you have from F0-F4 (cirrhosis). Thereafter it is generally symptoms present which determine cirrhosis stages. A general guide:-

Stage 1 cirrhosis No Varices, No Ascites (compensated)

Stage 2 cirrhosis Varices, No Ascites (compensated)

Stage 3 cirrhosis Ascites, +/- Varices (decompensated)

Stage 4 cirrhosis Bleeding, +/- Ascites (decompensated).

* my hubby was initially stage 4 but now stage 1 or 2 at most with some very teeny varices. Previously had a massive variceal bleed and 42 varices banded, never had ascites AND never had a fibroscan. Not needed as it would add nothing to his diagnosis.
