Hi Tim, there is no one diet that suits all since it depends on what level of cirrhosis you have and what the underlying cause is. It is always best to seek referral to a liver specialist dietician who can assess you as an individual and advise on what you need to do to maintain your own condition.
What suits someone with say NASH and cirrhosis is different than what is needed by someone with more advanced cirrhosis with muscle wastage etc. Also, if diabetes is in play things may need to be different.
A healthy balanced diet with reduced salt, less fat and less processed sugar is advised for all but some folks need more calories, more carbs and more protein and to eat little and often avoiding long fasts.
Next time you see your consultant ask about seeing a dietician.

ok thanks good information as usual very glad to talk
Previous advice is excellent. And please note that I am not a doctor. But if you google "Healthy Liver Diet Cookbook" you will find many books for sale and perhaps many are available for free at your library. I can't recommend any because everyone's case is different, some people might need more iron, some less, etc. That is why a dietician is so important.
But just to get started I suggest - until you can get in to see a doctor or dietician - find such a book - you will be surprised how many tasty recipes there are! You will keep feeling better!
Also note that "Healthy Heart Diet" seems to be 95 percent the same thing, so maybe look in that direction too.
This is one of those rare times when google is, in fact, your friend. Good luck!
Once again I AM NOT a doctor, so take it as "advice from someone on the internet" and no more, feel free to ignore.
The basic concept is a healthy balanced diet with high protein No salt, avoid all processed foods ( cook everything from scratch) if you are struggling to eat do little and often. You need need lots of rest and gentle exercise xx
