Is a coated white tongue have any relationship with liver disease?

White coating on tongue
There are many reasons why your tongue may have a white coating and its not for us to diagnose. Please speak to your doctor if you have concerns.
Laura
Thanks Laura. It was a general question really.
I’m confused aren’t we allowed to discuss our concerns on here?
Allowed to discuss concerns but we arn't (as members) allowed to say yeah or nae that any particular symptom may or may not be liver related - no one here is medically qualified and we can't offer any advice as to any diagnosis. As Laura has said in this case white coating on the tongue can arise for any number of reasons and needs to be assessed by a doctor to establish what is going on.

Me too, sometimes horrible taste as well. Bloods say liver okay but like you, I have doubts.
When my tongue was white it was oral thrush, please contact your doctor.

The problem seems to be you have convinced yourself that you have liver disease & now you are looking for things to back that up, so the docs will take you more seriously. Many people with illness also fall into this trap of thinking that everything that doesn't look right is related to their main illness.
However, you need to remember that anything could go wrong with the body & it isn't necessarily caused by one organ.
White coatings on the tongue are pretty common, but not used to diagnose liver problems. As someone has already said, it could well be thrush, indicating an imbalance of yeast & made worse by sugars. Best to get it checked out by dr. All the best😏
If this is directed at me, yes, looking for everything. I so want the doctors to be correct with regard to my blood panel being perfect. I love life and don’t want to think I’ve given it away, all because I couldn’t put the cork back on the wine bottle. Seize the day!
Oh whoops! Yes, it was to you not the original poster. The drs know what to look for, whilst worriers see " symptoms" that drs don't use for diagnosis. This is not to say this is always the right approach, but in my very long experience, they go from numbers, trends & scans. Visuals are rarely used. The visuals you are mentioning don't fit with my experience of liver disease.
Enjoy life, advanced liver disease would present with obvious symptoms. You wouldn't need to look for them. I hope you can stop worrying & grab life with both hands.😏🤔
I do have a problem and if that goes back to normal, I will believe GPs. Could well be anxiety. Thanks for replying. If I was at end stage, surely it would have shown up in blood? Sorry you have problems, wishing you well and thank you for your interest, it means a lot at mo.
Not only would it show on bloods, there would be other obvious signs. I had fibrosis at diagnosis & it was clear something was wrong. When bloods were done my bili was in the hundreds & ALT over 1000. You are more than likely suffering, like many people, from anxiety.
Anxiety levels are high for perfectly healthy people. The level of uncertainty in all areas is not helping. For those of us with long term illnesses, much of this is not new, confined indoors, unable to focus, unable to meet friends when we want to etc, but for many it is the first time their life has been constricted. Many have found it difficult to adjust. Not only that, but limited access to GPs has made people focus too much on dr Google.
I do hope you can get some rest from your worries. Find something else to focus on & try to look after your wellbeing better. Maybe indulge in a nice candle or body oil. All the best🙂
Think my bili was 14 at Christmas but normal in blood. You sound like you’ve had it rough. If I’d gone on this site last year or before that, I wouldn’t have touched white wine, it helped with anxiety but what the stuff can do to the body, I won’t be indulging again, certainly not a whole bottle most nights. Might treat
Myself to some new books, that’s my passion. Thanks again.
