Good afternoon I'm new here. I have just been diagnosed with 2 liver hemangiomas. One is only2 cm the other is 6 cm. I've had symptoms from them. I have my appointment with consultant next month. Don't know what to expect. Don't understand all of the results I had doctors print for me. Was wondering if anyone else has had them?

Hi Na

Welcome to this phenomenal forum (sorry I like alliterations 😁).

Just be aware we are “not meant” to present actual test results on here... Your words say enough I’m sure to hopefully get you some helpful replies. I know nothing on this subject but do know that there are others on here who have experienced what you have. Hopefully they will come out of the woodwork soon 😁👍.

Good luck

Miles

From the British Liver Trust page on Benign Tumours:-

"Haemangiomas are the most common of all benign solid tumours. Around 1% of people may have one of these tumours. Haemangiomas are made up of newly formed but abnormal blood vessels. They can vary in size but are usually less than 5cm (or a couple of inches) and usually remain so once grown.

Haemangiomas are usually picked up on ultrasound scanning. Further imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or microbubble ultrasound may be required to confi rm the diagnosis. A CT scan examines the density (thickness) of your body tissues. It obtains pictures, called tomograms, from different angles around your body using computer processing and can also show very detailed cross-sectioned images of your tissue and organs. With MRI a special tube scanner is used to provide a detailed view of your internal organs.

The majority of haemangiomas do not require long term monitoring or treatment. In rare cases where a tumour becomes overly large, embolisation (a type of treatment aimed at reducing the blood supply to the tumour) and surgery are most commonly used to reduce or remove it."

My hubby has a few of these in his liver of various sizes and they cause no issues. Nothing gets done about them unless they become so large as to start obstructing liver function.

I have one the size of a cantaloupe on my left lobe. They discovered it 5 years ago when I went in for right side rib pain. I went threw ultrasounds..& catscans then met with a specialist. He basically gave me a “physical” and said he could actually feel my hemangioma from where he was pressing on my stomach. He told me its possible that it flares up when I’m stressed..? He also said that “I do not want to have surgery to remove this”. Nobody around my area does that kind of surgery. Honestly I didn’t get much information about it from the surgeon OR my family doctor. I’ve had to basically do my homework and figure out what this thing is because I feel like I got 0 info! I’m suppose to go back here in a few months for another ultrasound checkup...but I can feel that it has grown.
