Autoimmune Hepititis type 2: I have... - British Liver Trust
Autoimmune Hepititis type 2
I don't know what type 2 is but I have seronegative AIH and also PBC
I can offer whatever I can to help x
I was diagnosed with AIH late in life and unfortunately it had by then already advanced to Cirrhosis. Looking back at the medical notes of the discussions I had with the doctors at that time I was told that AIH was classified by certain autoantibodies found in the blood . The most common form being Type I identified by the presence of 2 autoantibodies namely antinuclear and smooth muscle in the blood.
The other form mentiioned was Type 2 identified by a different autoantibody (the other 2 mentioned above usually absent) and that this was found mainly in young females and also children with AIH ( didn't write down full name because it was thought mine was Type 1 which eventually after tests did turn out to be the case (but it was something like liver - kidney micro?)
Hopefully in the 9 years you mention as having elapsed since original diagnosis you have been on medications to supress the AIH because I believe Type 2 can advance quickly to cirrhosis if not treated.
Your post appears to be aimed at finding someone who has Type 2 AIH who can advise you of their experience so it is likely that what I have said above is not really what you were looking for. However hopefully it might contain some small element that might be useful to you
Good luck
Thankyou Findasolution for replying yes I've had ongoing treatment from the onset of aih 9 yrs ago. Imuran 75mg for few years and then pred added for few months at time then tapered down and stopped .still on 75mg imuran an once again 5mg pred. To be honest over the yrs I haven't asked that many questions , I go back to get liver scan results on 9aug. I will be asking more questions then, I do remember my consultant saying there was scarring but nothing more was mentioned. I hope you are getting on ok.
