Yes, studies have shown that people with low vitamin D levels have higher incidence of cancers, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes & a lot of other diseases. Higher vitamin D also is helpful in patients with already existing disease. Most diseases are prevented at vitamin D levels of 50-70ng/ml.

Here is a link for vitaminD .

Doc this is very contradictory . Vitamin D is produced by sunlight but at the same exposure to sunlight is restricted after radiation. Where will the Vitamin D come from is breast cancer patients. Do doctors recommend intake of Vitamin D to patients? I have not been given any extra vitamin D in the medicinal form. Please clear our doubts. Thank you.

rgci13, you may want to get your Vitamin D levels done. It is a simple blood test, nothing more. You can ask for Vitamin D3 levels. If they are low, one can correct them by taking oral supplements. If they are very low, then one needs to take a weekly injection for 3 or 4 weeks, followed by oral supplements.

It is definitely essential to maintain Vitamin D within normal levels.

I do Vitamin D levels for all my cancer patients.

You may debate, whether it really helps or not (there are quite a few studies, some say it helps, some say it may not); but there is no harm in getting Vitamin D into normal limits.

Hi

Totally agree with you.

Regular check ups should be clubbed with Vitamin D check too.

Thank you for all your inputs.

Hey thank you all for replying to the question. Exposure to sunlight before 8.00 am helps in getting vitamin D and as Dr Sumeet and Dr. S Daskar say, Its indeed no harm to get our vitamin D into normal limits. So one should get their test done.
