Possible cysts?

Hello,

I’ve been very hesitant to write in here but I just thought I might see if I can get some opinions.

I discovered a couple lumps in both my breasts whilst on my period a couple of months ago. The way they feel (and given they are in both breasts) it’s presumably most likely just cysts. They are movable etc and I’ve been keeping a check on them the last two cycles and they pretty much stay the same one behind my right nipple seems a bit bigger then the others and longer. I do get nipple discharge when squeezed but I’ve had that since finishing breast feeling 3 years ago.

Anyway I plucked up the courage to mention it to my GP today, and I’ve been putting it off because I’ve been having other health issues and didn’t want her to just think I was a hypochondriac.

So she had a feel and could feel them and said probably cysts, there’s no family risk etc and that normally she would send for an ultrasound as well. But as I’ve had a few scans lately (thyroid which also has multiple nodules) and a couple other tests because I’ve feeling rather unwell which she’s just diagnosed me with GAD. She said see if they are still there next cycle and she will consider an ultrasound.

I don’t know how to feel? Shouldn’t they be double checked anyway? Should I just get another opinion or should I just wait.

I’m 32 with no breast cancer in my family.

Thanks ❤️

Hi Amz

I would push for an ultrasound to put your mind at rest.

I discovered my first cyst at age 40 and had 3 over the course of a few years. I then found another cyst in March last year and was sent for a mammogram and ultrasound. Mammogram showed nothing, but cyst was drained. Within a month I found another lump, but instead of going to the doctor I put it off for months, not wanting to bother them again as it would probably be a cyst. My husband insisted I went in the end and I am so glad I did as this time I had breast cancer in both breasts. Breast tissue too dense to spot lumps on mammogram, so if I hadn't gone back it would not have been found.

Long story short, get any lumps checked out and insist on a referral, that's what they are there for. It will hopefully be cysts, but it might not be and you are entitled to have an answer quickly. The waiting is the worst part as anyone on here will tell you.

Take care and best wishes

Caz

Thank you so much for your reply. I was honestly shocked that she said she normally would send someone for an ultrasound but for me to wait seems I’ve had a few other scans lately. I walked out feeling deflated. I have very small breasts and have recently lost about 12kg (and the 1st place the weight went was my boobs lol 😩) so I can feel them very easily. I’m so glad you went to get checked again x

Thank you, I will definitely ask her for the referral. I just wonder if it were herself with lumps would she make herself wait, I think not. So why do it to another woman 😭

The worry will not go away. Get them checked when you can. Fingers crossed they are nothing sinister but better to be safe and put your mind at rest. xx

Thank you. I will definitely will x

I would definitely push to get it checked. I was told by my gp that I had a cyst and it wasn’t. I don’t want to frighten you, it probably is nothing to be concerned about given your age but it’s important to be absolutely sure. All the best. Lesley

Thank you, I wish Drs wouldn’t just presume things without evidence to pack it up.

Much better to get checked out. I've had a couple of cysts in the past. 20 + years ago and both ok but you'll never be sure till they are checked properly. .

Hope youve managed to get an appointment.....perhaps pick a different GP. Always best to be cautious. Am a little surprised she delayed it. How many scans youve had is not relevant..... It probably is cysts but a whole months wait before being referred to find out is unfair. Good luck....

I agree, I feel like she’s just treating me like a hypochondriac as I’ve had a few issues going on that she can’t find answers for and is down playing everything to anxiety. I said to her of course I’m anxious I’m feeling so sick with no answers.

Always better to double check. I had dense tissue with drainage from my left. I started ignoring it and when I finally went in. It was already stage 2. It will put your mind at ease if nothing else..

Thank you. I think I will speak with another GP and get them to check for me. I feel really upset that my GP would fob something like this off so easily.
