Hello! I am wondering if anyone is taking melatonin to help with sleep. Every night, I wake up with night sweats around 2:00am and I can’t go back to sleep. It is really taking a toll on me...

Hi Grisol, it is not available in the UK but I had some from a trip to Singapore, I tried it for 3 weeks and thought it helped a bit but I want to check it is ok with my oncologist when I see her late March. I am on Herceptin and anastrozole and I don’t think my pharmacist would approve as not available UK. Let me know if you find anything more

Hi yes I've used it sometimes when I can't sleep and for jet lag. It's very good. I get it in the USA. It is available here on prescription. It is just the natural sleep hormone so shouldn't interfere with breast cancer treatment. Just don't use it too much as you may become dependent

Morning, . My son used melatonin to help him sleep but it made him feel grot the next day so he decided it was not worth it. I went on a Breast Cancer Care 'Moving Forward' course and Melanie Smith shared a clinical trial done of managing flushes/sweats. the self-management approach is detailed in a book which some of my friends have found useful in finding a way for the sweats to impact less and hence sleep better

Not a guarantee but an option to try. Hope you find a way to ease things soon.

Hi Sue

I am doing the moving forward course starting tomorrow. How did you find it, I am in two minds as I am moving forward too well and rather busy!! I will get a copy of the book and of course they may know about melatonin.

I loved the BCC Moving Forward course which I did after chemo/radio had finished. I know BCC are trialing a 'during treatment' course too . 3yrs on I am still in touch with a group of the ladies who attended and we get together every couple of months and continue to support each other. Fab to be in touch with those who 'understand'. Great to see you looking for help so actively (as I do). Enjoy the course and hope the book's approach helps.

I use melatonin tablets to help regulate sleep and find them to be helpful. I also use herbal teas designed for this purpose.

I do the melatonin. It doesn't stop my night sweats but I sleep much better. I wouldn't take it too late because then you don't want to get up. For me I take around 10pm and wake up around 9am. Good luck.
