Me too, sending all good wishes for a fabulous result. Was it your choice to wait so long, or because of treatment? I'm very new to this, I'm going in for a mastectomy on Thursday.

It totally depends on which type of recon you have. Implants are the quickest to recover from. Then both bottom fat or back muscle recons are a bit longer to recover from. I had a DIEP recon (fat from tummy) 6 weeks ago and am just starting to feel nprmal. They say 6-12 weeks recovery time from this one. It's the longest op (min 8 hours), longest recovery, but best an most natural results. You need to have a long chat about your options x

I had mastectomy last year, 8am op had implant reconstruction at the same time, I left the hospital at 5pm the same day, no drain in.

So really was up and about within hours, I felt ok that day also, started excercises soon after also.

I had s reconstruction using my back muscle i was in hospital for around five days and off work for 6 weeks. I also had physio exercises to ensure i got backmovement.

From a personal point of view think the longer recovery time is worthwhile.

Can't answer that as I had double mastectomy and chose not to have reconstruction. All the best with your surgery. I hope it all goes really well. Lainey66 xx

I had recon using flap from my back. Was out of hospital after about a week but still had a drain in place. After 3 weeks I felt fine and wounds at front had healed nicely. However I hadn't realised how much pressure the back wound was under and split it with a slight stretch. This then lead to and infection and being blue lighted back to hospital. Make sure you get someone to check any wounds you can't see. I only had the kids at home so didn't bother. Other than that everything fine just took a bit of time to inflate the tissue expander as they only so 100ml then wait a couple of weeks but I think that is good as it gives you time to adjust to having something there again. Just waiting now to have either a silicon implant or maybe just the port removed from the expander.

Good luck just remember to take care of yourself and listen to your body.
