Today I was told to go swimming try to stretch my arm I said I don't have a costume for my silicone my consultant replied just put your cozie on and go or if you want to wear it stick it your skin what if it falls out will it float or sink question is would I have to guts to swim after it or denie all knowledge and run

Lol... i know its no laughing matter but the images you put into my mind have me 'tittering'😀 ... i have had a double mastectomy. I was only asking today when I can go swimming as I love it. I have looked online for a cozzie as I have chosen to 'live a flat life' and don't use any prosthetics, nor intend to have cosmetic surgery etc. I think for the prosthetic you get a tape you can use to stick it on. Test it in the bath first to see if it floats or sinks in water. One Cozzie I saw was neoprene and would hokd ot in place mo bother. Google swimming costumes for mastectomies. That should help you. I agree one big one is difficult to accommodate, I haven't been swimming yet due to chemo. When I can I have a swimming prosthesis which drains the water and have Google for cossies they are out there. I'm also thinking about m and s because they offer a service whereby they adapt your bras for you so maybe they do the same with swimming costume. I keep envisaging myself swimming in circles with just one big boob !! Xx

Oh Jenny, I do feel for you, today my copy of Vita, the Breast Cancer Care newsletter dropped through my door, if you can access it online, there's companies advertising that supply mastectomy bras/swimming costumes etc, if you aren't able to access it put another post up and I'll let you have details of websites to look at xxx

have a laugh on me ... I took one of my grandsons to a pool when on holiday .. I have both silicone breasts , I put them in my swim suit .. I slowly slid down the wall into the water to feel a little warmer .......... And they began to float up to my chin 🙄🙄.. I slowly stood up and pushed them back down ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

That made me laugh but typical consultant who doesn't have to do it themselves! I wear a special swimming prosthesis and it is worth paying out but do buy a costume that is made to take a prosthesis or it will slip, they are heavy! I love swimming and if you get the right costume and waterproof prosthesis no one will know the difference and you will be confident.

I have just started going back swimming and it definitely would float if not being held in! I got my swimsuit in sales and was advised to make sure it was quite high to cover chest area and was good advice. Definitely have a misshapen look to me in the pool though it feels fab on the arm to get a good stretch. Good luck to you, I am assuming your consultant has never had to use a prosthesis.

Than you for replying.no my consultant is a he,I did try my old cozzy on it was not high enough to cover my creases the swimming is a one off I only play in the paddling pool with grandchildren

Mine was from m and s and cost €15 in sale and is best fitting costume I have ever had, bought online when I was diagnosed and now being well used, should have bought 2.

My daughter keeps pestering me to go swimming, I also had a single mastectomy with a 36e remaining breast. I have the breast prosthesis and they gave me a swim one too last week. They look wierd to look at and are quite heavy. I suppose I need to get used to wearing them first before I even think about putting one in a costume ha ha. I think swimming would be a good idea as it would stretch your arm, mine is quite tight in the armpit at the moment 5 weeks post surgery.

I cant say that I was that fussed about showing my flabby saggy bits in public anyway which adds to the problem. I think a bit of fake tan is the way to go and a decent mastectomy costume. I didn't realise M and S did them? Mac99 - good call xx

Mine is the arm pit area 11weeks post op they recommended swimming so that I can have radiotherapy your arms have to be up above your head I can't do that yet xx the staff are lovely in m and s

I agree about the mastectomy costume. But I used to not wear the prosthesis as it was so heavy. and wear a t shirt over my costume . No-one takes any notice . Some centres have women only bathing and they don't care if you only have one boob !

John Lewis put pockets in bras so probably will do a swimsuit. I have a lovely Nicola Jane Costume. Look on line, they have some lovely costumes and underwear for ladies who have had breast surgery. I have an excellent swim prosthesis which was ordered through the prosthetic dept at my hospital, cost around £30

I buy my costumes and swim prosthesis from Amoena, wait for sale! That's generally given satisfactory results though I did have an 'oops' moment a while back when the prosthesis slid downwards and I thought it was in the pool!

I've bought myself a swimsuit & a swimming prostheses from Amoena & they look fine, I'll be testing it out in my Sons Pool so no spectators if any mishaps!

Have any of you ladies flown wearing a prosthesis & carrying the swim one in hand luggage? How did you get on going through Security? Any Issues?

Well I went to a spa weekend adapted my custume and swam with my softie as I swam one way the softies had other things on its mind!! so sod it I took it out and put my normal one in for the suna not a good idea as it got hot and I had visions of everyone being scattered with silicon lol. In the jacuzzi I thought sod it and plopped it on the side which had everyone laughing. We all got chatting about it so not only did it break the ice it also reminded people that it can happen to any of us at anytime. x

Oh wilderness I feel for you but yes until your in that situation who knows what is going to happen ,I think I need to keep telling my self it's not my fault I got cancer it happens to most of us and talking does help amongst the tears xxi must say I have found this site very helpful

That's all funny. I am terrified of water, have a drowning fixation, but would love to swim. Perhaps when I have had surgery I can keep myself afloat with silicone?
