More coils?

It's been six months since I had two stents and 11 coils inserted to close my aneurysm. Last week I went for my 6 month MRI scan and this week received an urgent call from the consultant informing me that all the coils have compacted, the aneurysm has grown and he wishes to perform another op in no less than 3 months from now. Has this ever happened to any one else?

Hi collibob, I have not had the urgency you have but have been having problems with mine misbehaving for quite some time now. Have had stents and coils fitted in 2013 and it was ok for couple of years, then aneurysm started to grow, week before surgery it ruptured, so had emergency surgery to recoil, all was well gain for while until couple years back when grown again this time so big it’s pressing on brain stem, last resort more coils. Before surgery I collapsed and found blood clot blocking aneurysm and was shrinking , even on recent scans still in place it’s like miracle, so that’s where am at now.it remains very unpredictable surgeon says as he doesn’t know outcome and I don’t ask , take each day as it comes lots of luck love Alice xx

Alice, Wow what a story!!I hope it stays smaller for you and wish that everything goes well. I honestly believed that once the coils and stent were all done I would be back to normal, carefree even. Did they tell you how it happened? I was under the impression that once it was coiled that was it, job done

They aid they would monitor yearly, with scans, and if everything stayed in place after the two year point that was usually that. Well mine did, I think it was about three years after my headaches were becoming worse, my go sent me for a scan and they realised it had grown. I think it’s just one of those things that they can’t predict, it’s got a mind of it’s own, it’s got a wide base and is on the basilar tip in the brain so it’s quite hard to access, considering prior to it rupturing I was told if it ever did it would be catastrophic, and probably not survive, I’ve been very lucky. Apart from some balance issues, memory loss and the brains not as good as it used to be I’ve come through very well.lots of luck to you to the future, anytime you want a chat I’m here take care love Alice xx
