A little bit of advice please

Despite having very severe emphasema I still care about my appearance, particularly my hair, but I have a problem leaning over the bath using the hand shower to wash it, I get so out of breath that my hubby suggested me using my canulas, I tried it and nearly drowned myself with the water leaking down inside my nasal canualas. I usually wash it in the bath but as I get so tired I only bath every other day. Any suggestions on how to wash my hair without running out of breath or drowning myself. Sorry is this sounds trival but it is important to me.

thanks a million

My wife does mine, including the brushing and [today], plaiting. Yes, it's long! Without her, I'd shave my head I think.

I sit/lie on a giant beanbag, back to the bath with neck on a towel on the edge of the bath, so the water goes behind, into the bath.

Can your hubby do your hair for you??

These days I "treat" myself with going to the hairdressers and using their back basins - brilliant. As I don't race around outside much any more and not working I find I can manage a visit once a fortnight so it isn't too expensive and I feel so much better in myself for having been out and had a chat with others in the salon and the workers there. Am usually offered a cuppa of tea, coffee or water so it becomes a nice social occasion. Have a look around as some places offer special deals on certain days of the week too.

On the odd occasion of doing it myself - rarely these days, I use the cannulas and sit under the shower holding my head backwards so I don't drown myself as you have found Chinka. Pauls idea also appeals if you can manage it?

Good luck

Thinking about hair washing..there are hair dressers that will visit your home. Explain your concerns. We all need to keep our standards.

Wash it every other day? Is your hair greasy like mine?

the problem is caused by crushing the lower half of your lungs when bending. I have the same problem. (very severe emphysema). The cannula idea was good if you use a shower as you can sit upright on a chair and the water will not go into the canulla. The best bet in my mind is to ask your husband to do it for while you are in the bath. My wife has to tie my shoelaces because of this problem. I tend to use oxygen in the bath and getting dried or I would not have the puff and sats would go too low. I am sure your husband will be only too glad to help you.

Thanks Derrylynnem, I will give your suggestion a try.

Thanks everyone, I currently wash it with the shower in the bath so I can tip my head backwards, but thanks for all your suggestions.

I always wash my husbands hair and have him sit down and lean backwards over the sink, I put a towel under his neck so if the water runs down it soaks into the towel.

Thanks sweething, my husband works so I'm normally alone, I think I may have to continue with my bath on alternate days and washing my hair a the same time

now that sounds interesting, I would not be leaning over so much as the sink is higher than the bath, thanks for that I will give it a try.
