Hi meike :)

I wasn't asked to pay anything toward the flight assessment I had in 2012, but not sure whether that's changed now. Are you going to Pontefract hospital for it ?

Hi Ellen, I am hoping to go away with my daughters later this year , and was wondering if I should have a flight assessment, I am not on home oxygen at the moment, but I am quite concerned. That I may need it when on a flight, I know how out of breath I can get. And being worried about itCould make me far worse. I would appreciate your thoughts on this and any advice you might be able to give me I don't know which hospital I would have to go to Dewsbury or pontiff act.

I went on a 3 hour flight having very sever emphasema i was very concerned and apprehensive they do carry there own bottled oxygen. I was offered assessment nearer to time saw specialist in between she asked if I could walk 200 yds without being breathless which I could so she said I would be just the same as normal fit person and would not need to inform airline she was right just one thing I had flown many times before copd.I get wheelchair assistance for distance only hope this helps.

I had to cancel a flight to the USA at Christmas due to a chest infection and sats of 90/92. The doctor said I couldnt fly until my sats were 95. When I went for a check up a few weeks ago my sats were 98 and I was passed fit to fly and am booked to go at Easter. I always get wheelchair assistance at the airports by just requesting it

Thanks everyone, just one more question, do I have to book a wheelchair when we book the holiday or do we just ask for one at the airport

You need to do it in advance with the Airline or Travel Agent. Look at gov.uk/transport-disabled/p...

I notified my oxygen nurse and she arranged it at no charge. They seem to get very busy in the summer and Christmas so check how long the list is in your area. Happy travels
