Does any one else get more chesty when they have things like cheese. Could be an allergy but it only makes chest rattle a bit before it clears up which is bad because I like cream in coffee.

Should i give it up do not want to:-(

Hello Crispy Duck :)

My GP advised me to cut down on dairy products as they are believed to increase the thickness of the gunky mucus clogging our airways. My diet is very high in this class as I love my butter, cheese, eggs, milk, etc............. but I am trying ;)

I know that's the theory but it doesn't seem to affect me except for chocolate - but don't let that stop me :) Spicy foods are my biggest problem - love them but can't digest them so well nowadays.

Not everyone agrees but for some, dairy products can assist with increased mucus production and some do experience a worsening of sinusitis or catarrh symptoms.

There are alternative options in milk products, such as rice milk, oat milk, almond milk, soya milk, some are acquired taste in tea and coffee, any can be used in smoothies or milkshakes, but check to see if they are fortified with calcium etc. The fortified ones are those I opt for usually.

It really is your choice regarding reducing your intake of cheese or other dairy products, but if your symptoms are noticeably worse when you indulge its a question of if you can tolerate the after affects of indulging or if you don't want to consume the foods that may be causing the problem. You could always compromise and try a month with and a month without to decide which you prefer to do.

Another option when you are indulging is drink twice the quanity of water you usually do, that may help.

A nutritionist suggested the same thing to me as regards dairy as she felt it would help reduce muccus production. I have spent many "happy" hours in supermarkets trying out some non-dairy products. Have to say I have come round to using herbal teas as I found some of the other milks in tea and coffee rather difficult to perfect!!!

By the way, non-dairy is also good for arthritics!

Try is tho and see how you get on, good luck

As feared it seems less dairy is what is needed to keep things from getting any worse.

When I cut down you have shared a lot on what should go in it's place that has been so helpful to know what helps others.
