Has the world gone mad?

“Mum or Dad” not to be used on gravestones as they’re deemed too sentimental.

I need a stiff Jamesons and it’s only 9 in the morning...😡😡😡

It’s not still April 1st is it? All rather sad. Xx

I did wonder!

This QC is obviously a sad man who has no family who love him enough to wish to remember him in the way that they knew him in life. It is disgraceful that the Cof E, who, with church doors firmly closed, have been noticably absent in supporting people during the pandemic, should be allowed to dictate in this way.

Hopefully this will only be enforcable on Church owned property and won’t apply to municipal burial areas.

A bit morbid I suppose but I have a beautiful large cemetery close to my house and walk around it as part of my daily walk. I love to see the messages on the gravestones.

Twinkle and I regularly visit the 'sleeping people' in the graveyard of our village church. Very peaceful

Not morbid in the slightest...We often visit old churches and pay our respects to the buried.

Always sad to see the young ones though.😢😢

I live close to a lovely church with a large graveyard , a few years ago letters were sent to people who had loved ones buried there telling them to remove the many ornaments and momentoes there and warning if they did not they would be removed by members of the church . True to their word three weeks later members of the congregation were out with bin bags removing anything they deemed inappropriate- teddies on children’s graves , anything colourful etc . My son in law is buried there , he was 35 when he died , four weeks before his daughter was born Apparently rocks with daddy and flowers painted on by a five year old were not acceptable 😡 Heartless !!!

Disgraceful and heartless. And they call themselves Christians!I’m pretty sure what Jesus would have said. These people are more interested in their power and exercising social control than in following his principle of loving one’s neighbour.

When I visit my baby’s grave I regularly replace the mobile spinning windmills and butterflies etc. I buy them whenever I see nice ones and put them near his head stone. It cheers me up to see them as flowers don’t seem appropriate for a baby. It’s a lawned grave and the grounds man has never not replaced them after mowing thank goodness .

You in particular can well imagine how the relatives felt 😢Yes it seemed to be the windmills, butterflies and bees waving on sticks and helium birthday balloons ( all looking lovely and cheery as far as I’m concerned) that set them off This was ten years ago , they’re all back now and they’ve never tried to do it since 😊 xx

Absolutely and they deserve no better with that kind of attitude!

I believe this particular church was jammed to the rafters when it was used for tv’s “Songs of Praise “ some years ago - strange 🤔 it’s not usually 😂

Very sad. They obviously don't practice what they preach 😟

Your church has shoved all the graves to the side of the churchyard (now closed) so no-one now knows where the older folk are buried. But it makes the mowing easier.

My parents headstone would be removed if this ever came in and the one where someone's dog is buried with them and mentioned on the headstone as well!

What next I say, after all these stones and messages are paid for by the deceased family and we have to buy a grave and are obliged to keep it tidy, some cemetery regulations are different according to where you live. Children's graves are often segregated too. For some poorer people the words like mum , dad , are shorter and each letter or number costs money, plus if you only have the means for a small headstone space can be an issue with long names on there. Sorry but I think when such things are decided all matters should be considered even the one that says its a customers right. What's wrong with endearment on a headstone.???????
