New COVID-19 research finds relationship in data from 20 European countries

A new study has found an association between low average levels of vitamin D and high numbers of COVID-19 cases and mortality rates across 20 European countries.

The research, led by Dr Lee Smith of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) and Mr Petre Cristian Ilie, lead urologist of Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust, is published in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Research.

Previous observational studies have reported an association between low levels of vitamin D and susceptibility to acute respiratory tract infections. Vitamin D modulates the response of white blood cells, preventing them from releasing too many inflammatory cytokines. The COVID-19 virus is known to cause an excess of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

I’ve also started taking it after watching the video by Doctor John . As darker skinned people can’t absorb the vitamin easily , it makes you wonder if it could play some part in the reason why darker skinned people are more likely to pass away with this virus than fairer skinned people . Whatever the reason let’s hope a cure is found soon

I've been taking Vit. D for some years as advised by my immunologist daughter. The important thing is not to take too much as that can have bad effects.

My daughter-in-law who has a pre-MS syndrome was advised by the MS doctors years ago to take Vit. D to help prevent the disease taking hold.

Trouble is that now that everyone is being told to take it it's quite difficult to get hold of from the shops in the reasonable dosage.

I took 4,000 iu for the first year (100mg) now I take 2,000iu (50mg).

There's an eBook on Kindle entitled "The Optimum Dose" written by an American MD. Now American Doctors are extremely conscious of the litigatous nature of the American public so whatever he writes needs to be read and digested, if they get it wrong they will be sued from here to eternity!

He has treated himself and several thousand of his patients with high levels of vitamin d3 (which, by the way, is a natural hormone and NOT a vitamin - a mistake negligently perpetuated by the medical profession and encouraged by big pharma for 100 years). I've been taking large doses of d3 long before it became "fashionable" to do so.

D3 should be augmented with vitamin k2 (an essential vitamin which is depleted by most western diets.

D3 toxicity is over rated. Here are the results of peer reviewed papers:

There is, at the moment, no shortage, of d3, especially on line. Remember, do your own research. With over 30,000 medical papers published each year, no doctor can be fully up to date.

I have been taking it daily for three years. In that time I have had 2 chest infections , Pneumonia with sepsis, admitted to hospital for three days only and went on holiday for a week, sailing, in October, straight after being discharged. Now survived, what was highly suspected Covi-19. I am totally convinced of the benefits.

Since starting vit d, C and zinc about 5 years ago the improvement on my health has been astronomical. I did this because I researched the properties if these things but no one believed me! Vindicated!

Interesting article especially about the sun avoiders in warm climates. I've been taking it for over a year perhaps 2 since yourself and someone else mentioned it on here . No infections to date. May have had a mild dose of covid 19 in March but who knows as not tested - was just rather tired for a couple of days, bad head, stomach pain and then extremely cold for a week . x Anita

My Dr put me on calcium and Vitamin D when he found out I had osteoporosis been on them for 4 years. I also take Zinc with vit C one of the member said his specialist told him that's the one thing he would take as he got older, so I've been on one a day ever since.....don't get no where near as many colds and chest infection as I used to.. Take care.

Probably goes a long way to explaining why BAME groups more affected by COVID-19, as their darker skin would make it more difficult to generate Vit D in our climate. Fortunately my wife, who is Indian, takes Calcichews for osteopaenia, so she should be getting a decent dose; I started taking as soon as it looked like CV could be a serious problem

Public Health England now recommends minimum 10 micrograms daily all year round. I take 25 (ug which I think = microgrammes). P

Hi so for past few month my body has been going thru traumatic hell from brain dysfunction low moods weak bones bruising pins& needles lack of energy & high blood pressure & anxious waking up with same old feeling cried loads b4 not feeling well dr doesnt want to listen to me just chucks pills at me i kno ive got some serious health issues going on but just had bloods done to find out my vitamin d is low they want me take 50,000u once a wk i feel thats a lot & i would of rather popped ine pill every day.. will my body handle them read up on side effect & can cause a lot of symptoms that i'm already going thru & any advice of how safe these are if u have other health issues wondering about side effects anyone else had any side effects from these that i'm on colecalciferol ?
