Will Bronchiectasis Get Worse without Treatment ?

Hello

Since early 2015, I have been diagonised with Bronchiectasis. I was informed that my childhood illness, Whooping Cough, German Measules and Measules where the reason why I am suffering from this disease as of today

Since that time I have stopped taking antibiotics when I have contracted an infection and only take them as a last result. I have taken Amoxicillin, Doxycycline and Clarithromycin which have burnt my skin, given me diarrhoea as well oral thrush and consequently will not take them. Furthermore I have seen a specialist at Lincoln hospital and have decided that she was a hindrance for saying “ Everything is fine’ when my body was telling me it was not.

My question to all those on Health Unlocked is will my Bronchiectasis get worse at a quicker rate and will I die from it sooner rather than later, due to the fact I am not taking medication for my condition

Thank you .

Paul

Well its not really because there are plenty of qualified people who can tell me how serious Bronchiectasis can be without treatment. I am not wanting anyone to tell me what to do but general advice would be extremely useful all the same

Hi Paul, I think mainly its the risk of lung infection and left untreated is what may be a cause for life to shorten as untreated lung infections can give rise to complications such as pneumonia which can be life threatening.

I just take inhalers for my COPD for the bronchiectasis I just take carbocisteine if I start to get icky in the throat, and I always take ABs and or steroids if I get a lung infection and try to get a sputum sample to the docs for testing prior to taking the ABs so that the bacteria can be ID'd

If I have to take more than one course of ABs when I have a lung infections I always take pro biotics as well which helps keep the bowel happy and keep taking those when the bowel / gut is unhappy.

Rinsing the mouth after inhaler meds helps prevent mouth thrush, Always taking the ABs and steroids at breakfast time, never on an empty stomach may help too. I usually always have yoghurt on my cereal and take the ABs and steroids half way through breakfast.

Also drink plenty of water too.

Hope some of that is helpful to you.

Well logic tells me that yes you will, otherwise the rest of us with that condition are wasting our time taking medication, which is most unlikely. What exactly was the specialist at Lincoln Hospital a specialist in?

Apart from what the others have said, you risk pneumonia which in turn is likely to make the bronchiectasis worse.

Have to be honest and say that I try and avoid the Hospital like the plague, Everytime I end up there I am injected with Morphine because of the awful chest pain and the burning of the lungs.

I’m not sure that the lungs have the nerves to feel pain.

I would have thought that the chest muscles are the culprit, which would indicate an exacerbation of your symptoms, requiring treatment.

Well I'd rather be in hospital when seriously ill with a Bronchiectasis exacerbation, and not collapse and become unconscious for someone to find me.

It is likely to get worse if you suffer from repeated, untreated infections. Pseudomonas is the big problem for bronchiectasis sufferers. If you want to prevent it from deteriorating then do some research and learn about management of your condition. BTW if you think you have an infection it is very important to get your sputum cultured to ascertain the exact organism.

Hi Bella,

It sounds good when the doc says they will culture your sputum but I have had about 10 analyses done and with identifying anything.

In desperation I sent a sample to the Phage centre in Rep of Georgia and within a week they sent me back the results from about 12 tests and suggest that they can probably produce a Phage that will be taylored for the particular bacterium.

Hows about I dont

Well, it’s your illness and your life. You are free to do as you like. Bronchiectasis is irreversible and you have two choices - do nothing and see where it takes you or do all you can to keep yourself as well as possible to improve quality of life and prevent deterioration. Hopefully you will choose the latter.

Ask to speak to another consultant or doctor for advice. They had me on all types of antibiotics that did nothing. Have you tried CO amoxiclav I was put on to this and have found it works better with my chest infections (I have Copd) so I use my emergency medication touchwood not been taken into hospital since the change. But I would seek advice first before given up the medication

I absolutely understand your reluctance to take antibiotics Paul. I used to have lots of chest infections and had 3-4 courses of antibiotics each year. Developed pseudomonas about 4 years ago because of all the antibiotics, so I resolved to keep myself as healthy as possible. Changed my diet completely - no sugar, no processed foods. Built up my immune system with daily doses of Vitamin C and other supplements, and took natural antibiotics (garlic, oil of oregano. Olive leaf extract) when I felt a cough/cold coming on. Most importantly I keep my lungs as clear as possible with the help of nebulising a saline solution. I've had lifelong bronchiectasis (now 68), and can honestly say I feel better now than I ever did.

You probably had thrush because antibiotics kill off good bacteria as well as bad, so a probiotic is a must.

I would suggest you take the appropriate antibiotic this time to clear your infection and then focus on improving your immune system.

My bronchiectasis was caused by measles too.

Hello

Thanks for your message.

Just come out of hospital because I have severe chest pains which travelled to my lung area. I have a chest X-ray which found a shadow on my left lung. I was told it was bacteria. Besides having morphine, they gave me paracetamol, steroid and an antibiotics called Clarithromicin. I could have stayed in hospital but after two days I just wanted to do home

Thank you for your advice

Hi Paul

I’m terrified of this disease, and what will happen when all the antibiotics start.

I have been looking at what natural help there are out there.

(I hope it’s ok to post this as I have found it really interesting.)

I am on a Bronchiectasis site on Facebook called Bronchiectasis: Let’s support N share awareness.

This was posted earlier by another sufferer...........

A few people have asked for detailed information about my natural healing protocol. I always advocate using medical options first but if that fails then the only other option is natural methods. So here it is...

My experience with Colloidal Silver for Pseudomonas and Bronchiectasis with medical/science research and information links below.

After being at the highest level of Pseudomonas infection for over a year I had to take my health into my own hands. Each time the hospital would put me on anti-biotics pills and IV's the Pseudomonas would become resistant and fail. So I started taking Colloidal Silver (20 ml a day), Garlic pills high in Allicin (as directed on the bottle). Note: Most garlic supplements do not contain Allicin so you have to get the right one.

I also used NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) and Moringa (for about a week). Nebulize saline daily too. My Pseudo was at 3+ and in two weeks it came down to a level 2. I believe it would be as low as 1 by now as I have no Pseudomonas symptoms and very little sputum coming from my Bronchiectasis.

I continue to take 20mls of Colloidal Silver daily, saline nebs and crushed fresh garlic (3 to 4 cloves) on lunch or evening meals (at least 3 times a week).

Last weekend, I spent 4 days helping out at a Wellness Festival among 30,000 people and was on my feet walking around for at least 9 hours a day. I am also doing 3.5 hours at the gym each week and feeling amazing. Today I did 300 stomach crunches with 25kg weights and 200 legs presses at the same weight plus cardio... I haven't been able to do that in years! I know I can still get flare ups but for now I remain positive.

There are many studies and research papers proving the efficiency of Colloidal Silver on biofilms to break down the resistance of bacteria including pseudomonas, mycobacteria including gram negative and gram positive bacteria.
