Failed my PR assessment ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Edited last minute reprieve.๐Ÿ˜

โ€ข42 Replies

Because I mentioned I sometimes got pain on my left side where my abdominal hernia is they wouldnโ€™t progress any further until I got confirmation from my doctor that it wasnโ€™t angina.

Confirmation obtained, rushed back for assessment, lovely lady continued and I'm in!!๐Ÿ‘

Very thorough of them Don. What will you do?

in reply to peege

The nice lady made me an appointment with a doctor there and then.

Oh dear Don, can you get confirmation from your GP? I hope so. Xxxx

in reply to sassy59

My appointment is in half an hours time but can a doctor give that assurance without a ECG? If I have that done at a hospital it could be a while and I will have lost my place. ๐Ÿ™

Our surgery could do an ECG to save going to hospital. You can only ask. Xxxx

What a bummer but they have to stick to the rules and sometimes ( with our jaws firmly clenched) we have no option but to comply. Get the doc to reassure them then enjoy your PR. I am so healous, I simply cannot get on a course here because I have bronch not copd. I donโ€™t need the advice but I would love the exercise with other people and supervision by those who understand my limitations.

I am surprised. PR is not just for COPD patients. I thought it was for any lung disease. They were those with PF on the course I did and I donโ€™t have COPD either.

in reply to Katinka46

Very much depends on where you live. The physios at the QE in brum couldnโ€™t get me on and neither could my GP in Warks.

What a bummer. Yet another example of the post code lottery. Some consultants have applied for funding for pr for BE as the normal pr course is very much geared towards copd. As you say the excercise is great but there was no mention of lung clearance. There may be at some others as it is clearly not universal. I believe the RBH do one in house for BE. I think I have a link somewhere amongst the ether where prof wilson talks about it.

Thanks cofdrop. Yet another example of patchy services and discrimination.

I have found the interview. Unfortunately it came directly to me from ERS whilst part of the patient advisory group. Looked it up online and it will only give the introduction.

Yes they are being very cautious, I suppose the last thing they want,is a young whipper snapper causing a Christmas commotion! Very disappointing all the same and I thought that your GP had to put you forward for PR?

in reply to SquirrelsHolt

It was the respiratory nurse who put me forward and I was lucky to get a cancellation place.

Very disappointing for you...I've only managed 3 weeks I seem to recall, before I had a chest infection and they weren't happy for me to continue. Upsetting really for the other people taking part were lovely and I genuinely missed out there. Ce la vie!

As they say in the Army "all those without hernia's take one pace forward" followed by "stand still young Don,who told you to move".bet Midge would have passed, better luck next time Master Po.

Not missing much Ski's and an unfit Scruff's x

Trust you, you little **** stirrer ๐Ÿ˜‚. Hernia isnโ€™t itโ€™s proper name, itโ€™s a hernia waiting to happen when the core muscles are weak. Itโ€™s something women get after childbirth whose name escapes me.

You can borrow some of my 'mesh' i am sure they put too much in when they repaired my 'proper' hernia. :) x

in reply to skischool

They probably used chicken wire. Cost saving an' all that! Are you not happy with the result?

skischool in reply to

I still get pain and a loss of feeling or numbness in the area but can't complain as that's preferable to what was an ever increasing bump and the worry of strangulation.oh what happy uncomplicated lives we lead lol. :)

in reply to skischool

Never boring though is it? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hmmm..... interesting. I had the opposite experience. At the assessment they had to stop the shuttle walk because my heart rate was too high. I wasnโ€™t able to complete the course: my symptoms just got worse and worse, no recovery. I explained and the physio running the course said she was not happy for me to continue. I think it was pulmonary hypertension kicking in. PH is contraindicated for PR. Had I only had OB I would have benefited from PR. With hindsight I think they should not have let me on the course after the shuttle walk. So in my case they were not cautious enough.

Head-scratching Kate xxx

Thank you, that must have worked it's all sorted now. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Doctor checked me out, declared me fit as a fiddle (a somewhat beaten up one), rushed back to place of assessment where the lovely lady managed to squeeze me in (enjoyed that bit) and continued the assessment. Start 17th Jan. Phew!

Thatโ€™s great news. After all the drama preceding it, I hope the course will be helpful to you when it starts. Perhaps youโ€™ll share any tips and advice you pick up?

in reply to HungryHufflepuff

I could certainly do that though the benefits of PR are all ready well documented on here. Iโ€™m hoping to meet new nd hopefully interesting people. ๐Ÿ˜€

Yes thereโ€™s a few people whoโ€™ve shared their PR experiences but for people like me whoโ€™ve never been offered the opportunity to go on a course itโ€™s a great source of information. Iโ€™ve learned more about exercise and breathing and diet since finding this community than Iโ€™d ever been told all the rest of my life. So Iโ€™m counting on you, good sir!

I too hope you meet lots of great people and enjoy the course.

"Iโ€™m hoping to meet new and hopefully interesting people."

Most people over a certain age are interesting, they have a lifetime's worth of experiences/stories to tell.

Enjoy your PR Don, at the very least it is an excuse to get out and about.

Thank you 2greys , I'm hoping to regain my confidence in touring wild and wonderful places in the motorhome again. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
