Oxygen supplies in Germany

I have just looked at the site and found a query from 6 years ago relating to the supply of oxygen concentrators in Germany. It seems that the UK had no reciprocal agrement regarding this at the time. Has anything changed, as I am off to Hamburg in a couple of months time. Any information welcomed.

Hi

Speak to your U.K. oxygen provider. If there is system in place they would be the best to advice.

I sense you may have to hire a portable unit.

If you are intending to fly, that present another obstacle to overcome, airlines are stopping supplying onboard oxygen.

Thanks stone-UK. I have spoken to just about everyone involved, including my supplier Air Liquide, and have got absolutely nowhere, right up to German government level. Fortunately I only need it at night, so I guess I shall just have to hire one with no recompense from HMG. So much for looking after your citizens!

Why would you expect recompense for a service outside the UK? And have you declared your medical condition to your travel insurer? And, if you intend to fly, have you had the necessary tests to ensure that it is safe for you to do so?

Rest assured dear HuwieHex, despite having been on this earth for nigh on 80 years I do still know what I am doing. It just seems odd to me that we appear to have the facility for recompense in other European countries, and for other conditions. You sound to me rather like the Network Rail official who asked me why I should have a disabled parking space nearer to a station that than the normal spaces for ordinary mortals.

If you only need an oxygen concentrator for overnight use you should be able to organise one free of charge against your EICC card which I have done in the past. Firstly phone the Overseas Health team on 01912181999 also Dept of Health on 02072104850 one of those should be able to give you the info needed for Germany. It will however mean you making contact with somebody in Germany and faxing over any info they require such as address and phone number of where you will be staying and a copy of your EICC card and passport

Thanks gingermusic. I have approached the DoH on this, and they were moderately helpful, but at least they gave me some contacts to try.
