Stairlift and oxygen

Occurred to me last night how would I use stairlift with my ambiltory liquid oxygen how do others do it I have concentrators in living room and bedroom

For the short duration there should be no problem, when ready disconnect at bottom, use pursed lip breathing on the way up reconnect at the top.

Although you use oxygen you are not actually oxygen dependant, short duration should cause you no problem.

When we breath normal air we receive 21% oxygen, with a plus 1lpm that increases to 24% and for 2lpm increases to 28%.

Iam on 4lpm up from 2lpm and the respitory nurse said I can still use 2lpm providing I no my limitations.

Do you mean turn dewar of when I seated and then back on when I get of will it be safe to carry up on the lift thanks

No just use you main concentraters, sit in the chair connected to your downstairs unit, when ready to set of leave you cannula in a suitable place then travel upstairs and connect to your upstairs unit when at the top.

I. Asked suppliers for a longer lead so could go into garden but they said they not allowed so the concentrator in living room would not reach stairs have to go through kitchen then into passage to get to stairs and the one in bedroom likewise also how would I turn the one I have finished with of it seems insurmountable. Really giving me nightmares .

My tubing reaches from the concentrator kept under the stairs to my bedroom, to the bathroom, everywhere downstairs, to the end of my driveway and almost to the very bottom of my back garden and I live in a large house. Talk to your nurse about the difficulties.

Having said that, you don't yet have a stairlift so why are you worrying about the practicalities of using one? If it becomes necessary I am sure advice will be forthcoming from your medics. Relax.

Hi I have had a few firms come in the last week to give me quotes for a stairlift now thinking about the practicalitys when I had my liquid delivered the other week asked about a long lead. And was told it was not allowed it would have been a solution 😷

My stairlift took 2 mins for its journey and anything I needed I carried in a basket specially bought for the purpose so it was easy to hold on my knee while operating the lift with the other hand. Could you do that with your ambulatory oxygen? I am sure your oxygen supplier and stairlift engineer will help you. Good luck, once you have got it you will wonder why you worried I'm sure.

Try Amazon, there is a good selection of various sizes. Mine is a smallish shopping basket because that was all I needed.

I have a stairlift and I am on liquid oxygen which I use all the time except at night.( I have a small concentrator for that).When I use the stairlift I simply hold the oxygen flask on my lap and use the other hand to operate stairlift.

Thanks ray do you have your oxygen on on lift someone said I can't .Also have you any advice on stairlift company's and. Warrantys and maintenance if you don't mind

I contacted my occupational therapist and I managed to get a government grant to have the hoist fitted and annual service. It is guaranteed for as long as I have it. My liquid oxygen is in a flask which is about 12 inches tall so easy enough to take upstairs on the stairlift.

Thanks ray I unfortunately don't qualify so have to get my own but it is such a big decision deciding which one to go with and the price of service and maintenance is frightening my liquid is a marathon

My liquid oxygen is also in a Marathon. I think if you do decide to go for a stairlift you won't regret it. There are days when I can walk up stairs but there are more days when I can't. I have been very ill since December last year with chest infections and only just starting to improve now. Without my stairlift I would have been sleeping downstairs. Have a word with your occupational therapist first. Even if they can't help with cost they will be able to advise you. They may even arrange the servicing for you

Thanks ray I have also been ill since November in hospital 3 times haven't felt well since. I have trouble with stairs and spend most days in bedroom although I have insomnia glad you starting to improve take care
