I would not hold your breath epically with how gp's lung doctors only try cure symptom WITH out looking at cellular picture.

Guess the don't need to look further if we are regarded as common resource.

Hi warbler how long is a piece of string? It's anyone's guess when they'll find a cure for COPD but we already know that prevention is better than a cure.

There is some good treatment available that helps slow down the progress of COPD and occasionally new medication (inhalers) are released.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is get prompt treatment at the first sign of any infection. I think we all know that after having a bad infection our lungs are always that bit worse so the more we can do to prevent that the better.

If they ever find a cure, I'll be the one stood in the queue in front of you eating a Pork Pie and drinking a glass of Guinness. 😳😊

Hi sorry to say no as with many chronic conditions. But it is not a death sentence. With the right medication, healthy eating and exercise. One can live to a good old age. Take care x

Call my a cynic, but i dont think we will ever hear of a cure because the pharmaceutical companies would lose so much money from the medications we all take

ofcouse there will be a cure soon warbler. ...

so don't you worry to much about it...and don't you worry about all the doom and gloomers on this site too.

I did read some of your other posts...and having an FVE1 of 90....who could blame you for worring....

relax ...unwind...do pulsed lip breathing as often as you can....

dear friend take care ...you'll be just fine☺

There's nothing wrong in wishing for cures for progressive incurable diseases, perhaps one day there will be no such thing as ill health . You can actually ' think ' yourself in to being healthier it has been called the placebo effect. I am practicing it and have improved my lung function though that could be the oxygen of course! Stay as well as possible, huff x

Thank you everyone, I am personally very optimistic about the future with the way medical drug technology is going either for a cure or at least a way of controlling this illness so it doesn't progress.

I think you could be right...there's a lot of people who are working on it for many different reasons other than the one for profit. ...

There are a lot of good people in the world that work on our behalf but would still be beneficial to companies who could manage the condition without progression, taking drugs for the rest of our lives for eg.

I have asthma and copd...

my asthma is been treated with the very best medication there is. ...don't know if that will be enough to stop it from killing me though...but I am very gratful for it been there for me....

medication for copd is the same as above....

I do believe that companies are doing all the can to find ...if not cures...find ways of managing better then they are now...

again if not for love...they be doing it to stay in business or they will be left behind

some of the developments that have been made recently will improve my life and millions of others.

I guess one day there may be a cure but prevention is better than..... It won't prevent everyone from getting COPD but the majority, I think it will. I think we are lucky to live in a time where the condition, for many, can be managed with medicines. True, we have exacerbations but probably 15 years + ago, we would be sat indoors over the fire all winter. x

Things have improved hugely over the years and surely will continue to do so, prevention is definitely the key but being able to manage the condition without progression would be wonderful.

That would be wonderful. But the damage has been done. At least taking your inhalers slows down the progression.

Maybe one day

As i hope so as geting to tyerd of it

Here is interesting read ya all might what to look at LADY in story was lucky to get doctor to treat disease AS well of symptom.

Doom and gloom as nothing to do with it WE need more doctors like one in story AFTER all we all need to preserve what lung function we have

at this moment I have been accepted onto a trail which will last for nearly 12 months. It is an injection every few weeks. The idea is to try to prevent exhabs from happening. It has been tried with asthma patients and it helped. It is stage 3 trial and I had to have all sorts of tests in order to qualify. This is something which could really help us if it proved to help and if it got through NICE. Will be quite awhile. Tthis one is a world-wide trial and over 3000 patients.

Obviously I could be given a placebo - and a bonus is that during the time I get excellent medical care. If we don't go for these trials we wont progress.

With finite resources and expanding population if you cure diseases then according to Malthus the only controls left are Famine and War. Sobering thought. Be careful what you wish for.
